And all the people [were] seeing the thunder and the lightning and the sound of the ram's horn and the mountain smoking, and the people saw, and they trembled, and they stood at a distance. And they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will listen, but let not God speak with us, lest we die." And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that his fear will be before you so that you do not sin."read more.
And the people stood at a distance, and Moses approached the very thick cloud where God was.

Cloud and thick darkness [are] surrounding him; righteousness and justice [are] the foundation of his throne.

And [so] you came near, and you stood under the mountain, and the mountain [was] burning with fire up to the heart of the heaven, {dark with a very thick cloud}. And Yahweh spoke to you from the midst of the fire; {you heard} a sound of words, but {you did not see} a form--only a voice.

"These words Yahweh spoke to your whole assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire and the very thick cloud [with] a loud voice, and {he did not add anything}, and [then] he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. {And then} {when you heard} the voice from the midst of the darkness, and [as] the mountain [was] burning with fire, and [and] all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me, you said, 'Look, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire; this day we have seen that God can speak with a human being, {yet he remains alive}.

For you have not come to something that can be touched, and to a burning fire, and to darkness, and to gloom, and to a whirlwind, and to the noise of a trumpet, and to the sound of words which those who heard begged [that] not [another] word be spoken to them. For they could not endure what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned."read more.
And the spectacle was so terrifying [that] Moses said, "I am terrified and trembling."

form light and create darkness; make peace and create evil; I [am] Yahweh; do all these [things].

Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness [was] over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God [was] hovering over the surface of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light!" And there was light. And God saw the light, that [it was] good, and God caused [there to be] a separation between the light and between the darkness.read more.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, [the] first day.

{He has described a circle} on [the] face of [the] water {between light and darkness}.

Yours [is the] day, yours [is the] night also. You established light and [the] sun.

He made [the] moon for appointed times; [the] sun knows its [time for] setting. You make darkness, and it is night, when all [the] animals of the forest creep about.

"Indeed, his eyes [are] upon [the] ways of man, and he sees all his steps. There is no darkness, and there is no deep shadow where instigators of mischief might hide themselves.

And if I should say, "Surely darkness will cover me, and [the] light around me [will be as] night," even [the] darkness is not too dark for you, and [the] night shines as the day-- the darkness [and] the light are alike [for you].

He reveals the deep and the hidden things; he knows what [is] in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

The one who made the Pleiades and Orion and who turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens day [into] night, the one who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, Yahweh [is] his name! The one who makes destruction flash upon [the] fierce, {so that} destruction comes upon [the] fortification.

For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness," [is the one] who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Now from the sixth hour, darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.

And [when] the sixth hour came, darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.

And by this time it was about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour [because] [the light] of the sun failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn apart [down] the middle.

And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the heavens so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt and so that [a person can] feel darkness." And Moses stretched out his hand toward the heavens, and there was darkness of night in all the land of Egypt [for] three days. No one could see his brother, and {because of it no one could move from where they were} [for] three days, but there was light for the {Israelites} in their dwellings.

And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood [still] behind them, [so that] it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And {it was a dark cloud}, but it gave light [to] the night, [so that] {neither approached the other} all night.

When I brought out your ancestors from Egypt, you came to the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your ancestors with chariots and horsemen to the {Red Sea}. They cried out to Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he brought the sea over them and covered them; your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt. Then you lived in the wilderness for many days.

He sent his servant Moses, together with Aaron whom he had chosen. They set before them the words concerning his signs and portents in the land of Ham. He sent darkness and made [it] dark, and they did not rebel against his words.

I clothe [the] heavens [with] darkness, and I {make} their covering sackcloth."

And I will cause wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun will be changed to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

And I will {set} wonders in the heavens, and on earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun will be changed to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh. And it will happen--everyone who calls on the name of Yahweh will be rescued, because on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be {those who escape}, as Yahweh said, and among the survivors whom Yahweh is calling.

But Saul (also called Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him [and] said, "O [you who are] full of all deceit and of all unscrupulousness, [you] son of the devil, [you] enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord! And now behold, the hand of the Lord [is] against you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun {for a while}. And immediately mist and darkness fell over him, and he was going around looking for [people] to lead [him] by the hand.read more.
Then [when] the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, [because he] was astounded at the teaching about the Lord.

He bowed the heavens and came down; a very thick cloud [was] under his feet. He rode upon a cherub and flew; he was seen on the wings of the wind. He put darkness [as] a canopy all around him, a collection of {thick rain clouds}.

{Afterward} Job opened his mouth and cursed his day. Thus Job {spoke up} and said, "Let [the] day perish on which I was born, and the night that said, 'A man-child is conceived.'read more.
Let that day become darkness; may God not seek it from above, nor may daylight shine on it. Let darkness and deep shadow claim it; let clouds settle on it; let them terrify it [with the] blackness of day. Let darkness seize that night; let it not rejoice among [the] days of [the] year; let it not enter among [the] number of [the] months. Look, let that night become barren; let a joyful song not enter it. Let those who curse the day curse it, those who are skilled at rousing Leviathan. Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light but there be none, and let it not see [the] eyelids of dawn because it did not shut the doors of my [mother's] womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.

and to rule over the day and over the night, and to {separate light from darkness}. And God saw that [it was] good.

Let darkness seize that night; let it not rejoice among [the] days of [the] year; let it not enter among [the] number of [the] months.

"Where then [is] the way [where] [the] light dwells? And where then [is] its place,

Yes, here is the one who forms [the] mountains, and the one who creates the wind, and the one who reveals to humans what his thoughts [are], and the one who treads on the heights of the earth; Yahweh, the God of hosts, [is] his name!"
