And he who was talking with me had as a measure a golden reed, that he might measure the city, and its gate, and its wall. And the city lies four-square, and its length is as great as the breadth. And he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs; and the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured its wall a hundred and forty-four cubits, a man's measure, that is, an angel's. And the material of its wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like pure glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every manner of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, hyacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates, severally, was of one pearl; and the street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass. And I saw no temple in it; for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are the temple thereof. And the city has no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine upon it; for the glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb. And the nations will walk by its light; and the kings of the earth bring their glory into it. And its gates shall in nowise be shut by day (for there will be no night there); and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. And there shall in nowise enter into it any thing unclean, or he that works abomination and a lie; but only those written in the Lamb's book of life.
Without are the dogs and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one loving and acting a lie.
