But a certain man called Simon had long been conjuring in the city, and amazing the nation of Samaria, claiming himself to be some great one. And he stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, Why have you come out to set your battle in order? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants to Saul? Choose a man for you, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your slaves. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our slaves and serve us. And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man, and we will fight together.read more.
And Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, and they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
