according as He chose us in Him before the founding of a world, that we should be holy and without blemish before Him in love;

since His divine power has given to us all things pertaining to life and godliness, through the full knowledge of Him Who called us through His glory and virtue; through which have been given to us very great and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world in lust:

Even so, then, at this present time also, a remnant, according to an election of grace, has been reserved. But, if by grace, it is no longer of works; otherwise the grace becomes no longer grace. [But, if of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise, the work is no longer work.]

But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord; because God, from the beginning, chose you to salvation, in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of truth;

Notwithstanding, rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice, because your names have been written in Heaven."
