And it was the Preparation of the passover: it was about the sixth hour. And he says to the Jews, "Behold, your King!" They, therefore, cried out, "Away with Him! away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate says to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar!" Then, therefore, he delivered Him up to them to be crucified.

Matthew 27:19-26

And, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that Righteous One; for I suffered many things today in a dream because of Him." But the high priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes, that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. And the governor, answering, said to them, "Which of the two do ye desire that I should release to you?" And they said, Barabbas."read more.

And Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you wish me to release to you the King of the Jews?" (For he was coming to understand that because of envy the high priests had delivered Him up). But the high priests stirred up the multitude, that he should rather release to them Barabbas.read more.
