Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite said, I am young, and you are aged; for that reason I was timid and restrained and dared not declare my opinion to you. I said, Age should speak, and a multitude of years should teach wisdom [so let it be heard].
And King Rehoboam consulted with the old men who stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived and said, How do you advise me to answer this people? And they said to him, If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them and answer them with good words, they will be your servants forever.
King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who stood before Solomon his father while he was alive, saying, What counsel do you give me in reply to the people? And they answered him, If you are kind to [these] people and please them and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever.
I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the [uncompromisingly] righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread.
Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father, and pay attention in order to gain and to know intelligent discernment, comprehension, and interpretation [of spiritual matters]. As I myself have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble and mischief reap the same. By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger they are consumed.
And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
Then I commended enjoyment, because a man has no better thing under the sun [without God] than to eat and to drink and to be joyful, for that will remain with him in his toil through the days of his life which God gives him under the sun.
