whereas without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe, that He is, and is the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Now faith is the confident expectation of things hoped for, and a conviction of things not seen:
And not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, being about an hundred years old; nor the deadness of Sarah's womb. He hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief: but was strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully persuaded, that what was promised He was able to perform:
For they, that discharge the office of a deacon well, gain to themselves a good degree of honor, and much freedom in promoting the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
let us draw near with sincerity, in the full assurance of faith, having our hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
And Jesus, immediately stretching forth his hand, laid hold of him, and saith to him, O man of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands, and reach hither thy hand, and put it into my side; and be not incredulous, but believing. And Thomas answered, and said, "My Lord and my God."
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Now faith is the confident expectation of things hoped for, and a conviction of things not seen: for by it the ancients obtained an honorable testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, for the things which are seen were not made of things which appear.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but seen them from afar, and been persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth. Now they that say such things shew plainly that they are seeking their own country:
By faith Abraham when called to go out to a place which he was afterwards to receive for an inheritance obeyed: and went out, though he knew not whither he was going. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things future. By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph; and worshipped leaning on the top of his staff. By faith Joseph when he died, mentioned the departure of the children of Israel and gave a charge concerning his bones.
By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; chusing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to have the temporary enjoyment of sin: esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he looked to the recompence of reward.
by whom we have received grace and apostleship to preach the obedience of faith for his name's sake, to all nations;
for we are graciously offered it, as they also were. But the word, which they heard, did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
but is now manifested, and made known to all nations by the writings of the prophets, according to the appointment of the eternal God,
(While from the experience of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and the liberality of your communication to them, and to all men.)
Asia, and Bithynia, chosen according to the fore-knowledge of God, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience, and to the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ,---may grace and peace be multiplied unto you.

so faith, if it have not works, being alone, is dead. But one may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. But desirest thou to know, O vain man, that faith without works, is dead? consider, Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? Thou seest that faith co-operated with his works, and that by his works his faith was perfected. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God. Ye see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. And in like manner also was not the harlot Rahab justified by works, when she entertained the spies, and let them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
But if I be even poured forth as a libation on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and congratulate with you all.
Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father:
Paul a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for promoting the faith of God's chosen people, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness:
And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude;
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but faith which worketh by love.
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
But now Timothy being come back to us from you, and having brought us good tidings concerning your faith and love, and that ye have always a good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we indeed do to see you;
but let us, who are of the day, be sober; putting on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.
so do, and acquaint them that the end of that charge is charity, out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and faith unfeigned:
Let no one have cause to despise thy youth; but he thou an example to believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
But that on the good ground, are those who having heard the word, retain it in a good and honest heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Abide therefore in me, and I will abide in you: for as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, beareth much fruit: but without me ye can do nothing.
