The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge: fools despise wisdom and instruction.
And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
{To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, they have done abominable works: there is none that doeth good.
I will hear what God, Jehovah, will speak; for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his godly ones: but let them not turn again to folly.
The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do his precepts: his praise abideth for ever.
Wisdom crieth without; she raiseth her voice in the broadways; she calleth in the chief place of concourse, in the entry of the gates; in the city she uttereth her words: How long, simple ones, will ye love simpleness, and scorners take pleasure in their scorning, and the foolish hate knowledge?read more.
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour forth my spirit unto you, I will make known to you my words. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded; and ye have rejected all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh in your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh; when your fear cometh as sudden destruction, and your calamity cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you:
For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what is the will of the Lord.
A brutish man knoweth not, neither doth a fool understand it.
And I said, Surely these are the wretched ones, they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God.
But the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your inward parts are full of plunder and wickedness. Fools, has not he who has made the outside made the inside also?
Because, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but fell into folly in their thoughts, and their heart without understanding was darkened:
But foolish questions, and genealogies, and strifes, and contentions about the law, shun; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted;
Hear now this, O foolish and heartless people, who have eyes and see not; who have ears, and hear not. Will ye not fear me? saith Jehovah. Will ye not tremble at my presence, who have set the sand a bound for the sea by a perpetual decree, and it shall not pass it? and its waves toss themselves, but they do not prevail; and they roar, yet can they not pass over it? But this people hath a stubborn and a rebellious heart; they have turned aside and are gone.read more.
And they say not in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God, that giveth rain, both the early and the latter, in its season; who preserveth unto us the appointed weeks of harvest. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden from you what is good.
He that confideth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
But God said to him, Fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; and whose shall be what thou hast prepared?
Every prudent man acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open his folly.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright; but the mouth of the foolish poureth out folly.
But they shall not advance farther; for their folly shall be completely manifest to all, as that of those also became.
The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
The simple believeth every word; but the prudent man heedeth his going.
