And as ye abound in every other grace, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, that ye may abound in this grace also. I speak not by way of command, but to prove the sincerity of your love also, by means of the forwardness of others. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye by his poverty might be rich.
In this we know his love, that He laid down his life for us: and we should be ready to lay down our lives for the brethren. But if any one, who hath the good things of the world, seeth his brother in want, and shutteth up his bowels from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, or in tongue only, but in deed and in truth.
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand: and in confirmation of your doctrine heal the sick, cleanse the leprous, raise the dead, cast out demons; and as ye have received freely, freely give.
Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? to seven times? Jesus answereth him, I tell thee not, to seven times, but to seventy times seven. And therefore the gospel-kingdom is like unto a king, who had a mind to settle accounts with his servants:read more.
and when he began to reckon, there was brought to him one, who was debtor in ten thousand talents: and not having it to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had; and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell prostrate before him, saying, Lord, bear with me a while, and I will pay thee all: and his lord had compassion on him, and discharged him, and forgave him the debt. But that same servant, as he was going out, met with one of his fellow-servants, who owed him but an hundred pence; and he laid hold on him and seized him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest me: and his fellow-servant fell down at his feet, and intreated him, saying, Bear with me a while, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went away and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. Now when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were very much grieved, and came and acquainted their lord with all that had passed. Then his lord called for him again, and said to him, Thou wicked slave, I forgave thee all that vast debt at thy request, and oughtest not thou to have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had on thee? And his lord being highly provoked delivered him to the officers, till he should pay all that was owing to him. Thus will my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts their trespasses.
And the heart and soul of the multitude that believed was one: no one called any of his possessions his own property, but they had all things common. And with great power did the apostles give their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any indigent person among them; for as many as were proprietors of lands or houses, sold them and brought the prices of what were sold,read more.
and laid them at the apostles feet; and distribution was made to every one according to their necessity. So Joses who was by the apostles sirnamed Barnabas, which is a son of consolation, a Levite, by birth a Cyprian, having an estate, sold it and brought the money, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
Give to him that asketh thee, and him, that would borrow of thee, turn not away.
Jesus replied, If thou wouldst be perfect, go, sell thy estate, and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.
For to their power, I bear them witness, yea and beyond their power, they contributed of their own accord:
Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go first to you, and before our coming to collect your bounty beforementioned, that it may be ready, as of munificence, and not of force.
And as Jesus was sitting over against the treasury, He saw how the people threw money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in much; and there came a poor widow and put in two mites, that is, a farthing. And He called his disciples to Him, and saith unto them, Verily I tell you, that this poor widow has given more than all those who have cast into the treasury.read more.
For they all have contributed out of their abundance: but she out of her penury hath given all that she had, even her whole living.
And He looked up and saw the rich people bringing their gifts to the treasury: and He saw also a poor widow throwing in two mites. And He said, Verily I tell you, this poor widow hath put in more than they all.read more.

And let him, that is instructed in the word, communicate in all good things to him that instructeth.
Let the elders, who preside well, be counted worthy of double honor, especially those that labour in preaching and teaching. For the scripture saith, "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn:" and, "The workman is worthy of his hire."
And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came to Him a woman with an alabaster-box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head as He was at table:
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, and well-pleasing to God, as your rational service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may experience what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
But if I be even poured forth as a libation on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and congratulate with you all.
But a certain Samaritan, as he was travelling, came up to him, and when He saw him, he was moved with compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him. And on the morrow, when he went away he took out two denaries, and gave them to the inn-keeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will repay thee.
Then will He reply to them, saying, Verily I tell you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the lest of these, ye did it not to me.
And He said unto them, See to it that ye beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of his possessions.
give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed and shaken down and running over, shall they give into your bosom: for by the same measure, which ye measure with, shall it be measured back again to you.
But this I say, He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let every one give as he chuses in his own heart; not with reluctance, or constraint: for God loveth a chearful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that having always all sufficiency in every thing, ye may abound in every good work:read more.
(as it is written, "He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor, his righteousness continueth for ever."
And let us not be weary in doing good: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. And therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the houshold of faith.
