Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes?"

And have ye not read this scripture: "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone;

But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone"?

This is the stone which was set at nought by you the builders, which is become a cornerstone.

Because it is contained in the Scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen, honored; and he that believeth in him shall not be put to shame." To you therefore who believe, is the honor; but to the disobedient, "the stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone,"

Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder.

Why? Because they did not strive for it by faith, but as being by works. For they stumbled against the stone of stumbling; as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; and he that believeth in him shall not be put to shame."

To whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but in the sight of God chosen, honored, be ye yourselves also, as living stones, built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
