Jesus answered them, you are mistaken, for want of a true notion of the scriptures, and of the divine power.
since then we are the offspring of God, we should not imagine that the Deity bears any resemblance to the form which Gold, or Silver, or Stone has receiv'd from human art and industry. God has been pleas'd to over-look this state of ignorance: but now he enjoins all men every where to repent:
which are overspread with darkness, and averse to a religious life, thro' their innate ignorance and obduracy:
as obedient children be no longer influenc'd by those passions, which were the effects of your former ignorance.
but all these things will they do unto you, out of hatred to my name, because they know not him that sent me.
and thus will they treat you, because they have not known the father, nor me.
in flaming fire, to take vengeance on those, who know not God, and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
As they did not seek the favour of God, by worshipping him, God gave them over to a depraved sense, to act unworthy of human nature;
