He that loves his brother abides in light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.

By this shall all know that ye are disciples of mine, if ye have love amongst yourselves.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

Owe no one anything, unless to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. For, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not lust; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. And to all these add love, which is the bond of perfectness.

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in the darkness until now.

If any one say, I love God, and hate his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
