And he answered them, "Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'
In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman was made from man, so also man is born of woman. And all things are from God.
and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
But because of immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
For a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of her husband.
A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
I mean, brethren, the appointed time has grown very short; so that from now on, those who have wives should live as though they had none, and those who mourn, as though they were not mourning; and those who rejoice, as though they were not rejoicing; and those who buy, as though they did not possess; and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it. For the form of this world is passing away.
But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
Or do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh."
The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
So husbands ought also to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,
Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is himself the Savior. As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject to their husbands in everything.
so they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
You wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, when they see your chaste and respectful behavior. Your adornment must not be merely outwardbraiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on fine clothing;read more.
but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God's sight. For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, and were submissive to their own husbands; just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and are not frightened by any fear.
I wish that all men were as I myself am. But each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. But I say to the unmarried and to the widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.
The disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry." But he said to them, "Not all men can accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given. For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it."
But if any man thinks that he is not acting properly toward his betrothed, if she is past her youth, and if it must be so, let him do what he wishes, he does not sin; let them marry. But he who stands firm in his heart, being under no constraint, but has control over his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who does not marry her will do better.
But refuse to put younger widows on the list, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to marry, thus bringing condemnation, because they have set aside their first pledge. Besides, they learn to be idle, going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.read more.
So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their homes, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach.
