for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.
Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
But far be it from me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as debt.
And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.
Thus says the LORD, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.
