Dearly beloved, I exhort you as strangers and sojourners here, to abstain from carnal lusts, which war against the soul:
Behave soberly, as ye ought to do, and sin not: for some of you have not the knowledge of God; to your shame I speak it.
Laying aside therefore all filthiness, and excess of malice, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
but exhort one another daily, while it is called to-day; that none of you may be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin:
Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the holy Spirit hath appointed you bishops, to feed the church of God, which He purchased with his own blood.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do, I allow not: for I do not that which I would; but what I hate, this I do. And if I do that which I would not, I consent to the law that it is good:read more.
but now I am no more the doer of it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwelleth no good: for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good, I find not. For I do not the good that I would; but the evil which I would not, this I do. Now if I do that which I would not, I am no more the doer of it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a kind of law, that when I would do good, evil besets me. For I delight in the law of God, as to the inward man: but I perceive another law in my body warring against the law of my mind, and captivating me to the law of sin, which is in my body. Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from this body of death? The grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with my mind I serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Moreover, my brethren, strengthen yourselves in the Lord, and in his mighty power. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil. For our conflict is not with flesh and blood only, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the world and of the darkness of this age, against wicked spirits in heavenly places.read more.
Take therefore the complete armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore having your loins girt about with truth, and putting on the breast-plate of righteousness: and having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: over all taking the shield of faith, whereby ye will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one: take also the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying at all seasons with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance, and intercession for all the saints;
Be sober, be vigilant; for your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist, stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are endured by your brethren in the world.
Who Himself bare our sins in his own body on the cross, that we being dead to sins, might live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye are healed.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid! how shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death?read more.
Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life: for if we have been planted together in the resemblance of his death, so shall we be also of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we might no longer be inslaved to sin: for he that is thus dead with Christ, is delivered from sin.
I am crucified with Christ; yet I live, though no longer I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave up himself for me.
And they, that are Christ's, have crucified the flesh with it's passions and desires.
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision not performed by hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision which is of Christ: being buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are raised together with Him, through faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Whosoever is born of God doth not practise sin, because his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
And therefore if any one be in Christ, he is created anew: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.
being regenerated not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abideth for ever.
Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, nor known Him.
We know that whosoever is born of God, doth not practise sin: but keepeth himself from it, and the wicked one doth not touch him.

So also do ye reckon yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield your bodies as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God.read more.

But do thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, piety, fidelity, love, patience, meekness.
Flee youthful passions: and follow righteousness, fidelity, love, and peace, with all those that call upon the Lord out of a pure heart:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may experience what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
For they who are after the flesh, mind the things of the flesh; but they who are led by the Spirit, do mind spiritual things. Now to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace: because the carnal mind is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be:read more.

I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye will not fulfil the desire of the flesh: for the flesh desireth things contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit things contrary to the flesh: and these are opposite to each other; so that ye do not those things which ye would. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, such as, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, enmities, strifes, emulations, animosities, contentions, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and the like: of which I forewarn you, as I have also told you before, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, fidelity, meekness, temperance: against such things there is no law. And they, that are Christ's, have crucified the flesh with it's passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Then was Jesus led by the spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil: and when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, at last He was very hungry. And the tempter came to Him and said, If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread:read more.

Again the devil taketh Him to a very high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me: then Jesus saith unto him, Be gone, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left Him, and behold angels came and attended Him.
Now Jesus being full of the holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted by the devil; and He did eat nothing in all those days: and when they were ended, at last He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.read more.

And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set him on a battlement of the temple, and said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence; for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to keep thee, and they shall bear thee up in their hands, least thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answered him, it is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a time.
and is profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly fitted for every good work.
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen."
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
No temptation has yet taken you but what is common to man: and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able to sustain; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
for we have not an high-priest who cannot sympathize with our infirmities, but was in all respects tempted in like manner with us, yet without sin. Let us therefore come with freedom to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace for our seasonable help.
I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: as ye have yielded your bodies servants to impurity and iniquity to work iniquity; so now present your bodies servants to righteousness, unto holiness.
but as He who hath called you is holy, be ye also holy in all your conversation: since it is written, Be ye holy, for I am holy.
