he saith to them, Retire; for the little girl is not dead, but sleeping. And they derided him.

And entering in he saith, Why make ye this uproar, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

Now all were weeping and lamenting her: and he said, Weep not, she is not dead, but asleep. And they derided him, for they knew that she was dead.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, from henceforward: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may have rest from their labours; but their works follow after them.

These things said he: and after that he saith to them, Our friend Lazarus is asleep; but I go to waken him up. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he is asleep, he will recover. Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they apprehended that he spake of taking rest in sleep.read more.
Then Jesus therefore told them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

Then falling on his knees, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, impute not to them this sin! And thus speaking, fell asleep.

afterwards he appeared before five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater number remain alive unto this hour, but some also are gone to rest.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all who are in the graves shall hear his voice, and they shall come forth; they who have done good actions to the resurrection of life; and they who have been guilty of foul practices, to the resurrection of damnation.

Now it came to pass that the poor man died, and was carried up by angels into the bosom of Abraham. Then the rich man also died, and was buried: and in hell, lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he seeth Abraham at a vast distance, and Lazarus in his bosom.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first-fruit of those who have fallen asleep.

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are fallen asleep, that ye be not afflicted, as the rest [of mankind] who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again, so also those that have fallen asleep for Jesus shall God bring with him. For this I say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent those who are fallen asleep.read more.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we who are alive, who remain, shall be caught up together with them into the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we be ever with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
