She hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

For ye have the poor always with you, and when ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always.

And having fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards hungry.

Being forty days tempted by the devil. And in those days he ate nothing, and when they were ended he hungered.

But when the sailors were attempting to flee out of the ship, and had let down the boat into the sea, under pretence that they were going to carry out anchors from the ship-head, Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, Unless these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved. Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let it fall off. And while the day was coming on, Paul exhorted them all to take food, saying, This day is the fourteenth that ye have tarried and continue fasting, having taken nothing. Therefore I exhort you to take food; for this is for your preservation; for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you. And having spoken thus, he took bread, and gave thanks to God before them all; and having broken it, he began to eat. Then were they all incouraged, and they also took meat. And we were in the ship in all, two hundred and seventy-six souls. And when they were satisfied with food, they lightened the ship, casting out the wheat into the sea. And when it was day, they did not know the land; but they observed a certain creek having a shore, into which they were minded, if possible, to thrust the ship: And having taken up the anchors, they committed it to the sea, at the same time loosing the rudder-bands, and hoisting up the stay-sail to the wind, they made for the shore. But falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship a ground; and the fore-part sticking fast, remained immovable, but the hinder-part was broken by the force of the waves. And the counsel of the soldiers was, to kill the prisoners, lest any one should swim away and escape. But the centurion, being desirous to save Paul, hindered them from their purpose, and commanded those that could swim, throwing themselves into the sea, first to get away to land, And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship; and so it came to pass, that they all escaped safe to land.

in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

And having preached the gospel to that city, and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch, Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith; and that we must through many tribulations enter into the kingdom of God.

Even to this present hour, we both hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain abode, And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and off-scouring of all things to this day.

For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, of the trouble which befell us in Asia, that we were exceedingly pressed, above our strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yea, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we might not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raiseth the dead:

Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak foolishly) I more: in labours more abundantly, in stripes more exceedingly, in prisons more abundantly, in deaths often. Five times I received from the Jews forty stripes save one. in dangers from rivers, in dangers from robbers, in dangers from my own countrymen, in dangers from the heathen; in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers in the sea, in dangers among false brethren: In labour and toil, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside the things which are from without, that which rusheth upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is offended, and I burn not?

Not that I speak in respect of want; for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound, every where and in every thing I am instructed, both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to want. Nevertheless ye have done well, that ye did communicate to me in my affliction.

Thou therefore endure affliction, is a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

For ye sympathized with my bonds, and received with joy the spoiling of your goods, knowing that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

They were stoned, were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, in goat-skins, destitute, afflicted, tormented: (Of whom the world was not worthy) they wandered in deserts, and mountains, and dens, and caves of the earth.

If ye endure chastning, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he, whom his father chastneth not?

and hast borne for my name's sake, and hast not fainted.

Yea, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we might not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raiseth the dead:

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, shall be saved.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake; but he that endureth to the end, he shall be saved.

Happy is the man that endureth temptation: for when he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Behold, we count them happy that have endured. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord: for the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.

For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
