and ye shall be hated by all men for professing my name; but he that perseveres to the end shall certainly be saved.

And ye shall be hated by all men for my sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues.

For behold I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name:

But ye shall be betrayed even by parents, and brethren, and kindred and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death: and ye will be hated by all men for my sake.

confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and telling them that through many afflictions we must enter into the kingdom of God.

And indeed all, that are desirous to live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.

For to you it is granted as a favor from Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for his sake:

Wonder not then, my brethren, if the world hate you:

Fear none of the things which thou wilt suffer: behold the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall suffer affliction ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

(as it is written, "for thy sake we are killed all the day long, we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter:")

chusing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to have the temporary enjoyment of sin: esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he looked to the recompence of reward.

And they laid hands on them, and put them into custody till the next day: for it was now evening.

So they took his advice, and having called for the apostles and scourged them, they charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

have ye suffered so many things in vain? if indeed in vain.

But though we had suffered before and been injuriously treated, as ye know, at Philippi, we spake boldly in the name of our God to declare unto you the gospel of God with much conflict.

in which they think it strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, and therefore speak evil of you:

But call to remembrance the former days, in which after being enlightened, ye sustained a great conflict of sufferings; partly, being made a public spectacle by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, as ye became associates of those who were so treated: for ye sympathized with me in my bonds, and ye took joyfully the plundering of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake: rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great will be your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets, that were before you.

And lifting up his eyes on his disciples He said, Blessed are ye though poor; for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and reject you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as infamous on account of the Son of man.read more.
Rejoice in that day, and be exceeding glad; for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for thus did their fathers to the prophets.

And they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for his name.

Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but bear thy part in the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God;

for this is an evidence of grace, if any one for conscience towards God endure griefs, suffering unjustly.

For it is better (if it be the will of God) to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

Beloved, be not surprised at the fiery trial coming upon you, which is to try you, as if some strange thing befel you: but rejoice in that ye are partakers in the sufferings of Christ; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may also rejoice with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: and though as to them He is blasphemed, yet as to you He is glorified.read more.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as a malefactor, or as an intermeddler with other people's affairs. But if any suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God herein.

If ye endure chastening, God treateth you as sons; for what son is there, whom the father doth not chastise?

If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and co-heirs with Christ: if so be we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified with Him.

For the future, let no one give me uneasiness: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God, for your patience and faith under all your persecutions and afflictions which ye endure. Which are a demonstration of the just judgement of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

Now no chastening seems for the present to be matter of joy but of grief: and yet afterwards it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those that are exercised thereby.

every branch in me that beareth not fruit He taketh away, and every one that beareth fruit, He purgeth, that it may bear more fruit.

In which ye rejoice, tho' now for a little while, if need be, ye are grieved through various trials. That the proof of your faith, which is much more precious than of gold, (that perisheth, though tried by fire) may be found unto praise, and honor, and glory, when Jesus Christ shall be revealed:

cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be manifested in our body.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up what is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

for I will shew him how great sufferings he must endure for my name.

save that the holy Spirit testifieth in every city, that bonds and afflictions await me. But none of these things move me, nor do I account my life dear, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

For it seems to me that God hath as it were exhibited us the apostles last upon the stage as appointed to death; for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ: we are weak, but ye are strong: ye are honoured, but we are despised. Even to this present time we suffer both hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling:read more.
and we labour working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless: when persecuted, we bear it: when defamed, we intreat. We are made as the filth of the world, and the refuse of all things to this day.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and God of all consolation; who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those, that are in any trouble, by the consolation wherewith we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings for the sake of Christ abound on us, so our consolation by Christ doth also abound.
