And he said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"

But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.

Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise."

But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.' But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."

Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me,

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.

Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, "Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
