But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your no, no; that ye fall not under condemnation.

For men indeed swear by something greater than themselves; and an oath for confirmation is with them conclusive in all disputes.

And the king was grieved: but for his oath's sake, and on account of those who were with him, he commanded it to be given her.
