And when they came to Capernaum, those who received the didrachma [28 cents], came to Peter, and said, Does not your teacher pay the didrachma?

And they came and said to him, Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no one, for you respect not the face of men, but teach the way of God in truth. And they accused him, saying, We have found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying that he is an anointed king.
He said, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive taxes, or a tribute? From their children, or from strangers?
For on this account also you pay taxes; for [magistrates] are servants of God attending constantly to this same thing.
Pay to all their dues; a tax to whom a tax is due, a toll to whom a toll is due, fear to whom fear, and honor to whom honor.
