On the first day of the Passover Feast the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Where do you want us to get the Passover supper ready for you to eat?" And He said, "Go into the city, to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near. I am going to keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'" When evening came, He was sitting at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, He said, "I solemnly say to you, one of you is going to betray me." They were cut to the bottom of their hearts, and began to ask one by one, "It cannot be I, can it, Lord?" He answered, "The man who has just dipped his hand with me in the dish is the man who is going to betray me. The Son of Man is going away as the Scriptures say of Him, but a curse will be on that man by whom He is betrayed. It would have been better for that man, if he had never been born!" Then Judas, who afterward betrayed Him, answered by asking, "It cannot be I, can it, Rabbi?" Jesus answered him, "Yes, you are the man." While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf and blessed it; then He broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take this and eat it; this is my body." He also took the cup of wine and gave thanks; then He gave it to them, saying, "All of you drink some of it, for this is my blood which ratifies the covenant, the blood which is to be poured out for many for the forgiveness of their sins. I tell you, I will never again drink the product of the vine till the day when I drink the new wine with you in my Father's kingdom." After singing a hymn, they left the city, and went up the Mount of Olives.

While they were eating, He took a loaf and blessed it and broke it in pieces and gave it to them, saying, "Take this; it is my body." He also took the cup of wine and gave thanks and gave it to them, and they all drank some of it. Then He said to them, "This is my blood which ratifies the covenant, the blood which is to be poured out for many.

Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.'

Then He took a loaf, gave thanks, and broke it in pieces, and gave it to them, and said, "This is my body which is to be given for you. Do this as a memorial to me." In like manner after supper He took a cup of wine, and said, "This cup of wine is the new covenant to be ratified by my blood, which is to be poured out for you.

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never get hungry, and whoever believes in me will never get thirsty.

I am this living bread that has come down out of heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever, and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my own flesh."

Then Jesus said to them, "I most solemnly say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life in you. Whoever continues to eat my flesh and drink my blood already possesses eternal life, and I will raise him to life on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.read more.
Whoever continues to eat my flesh and drink my blood continues to live in union with me and I in union with him. Just as the living Father has sent me and I live because of the Father, so whoever keeps on eating me will live because of me.

Before the Passover feast started, Jesus knew that His time had come for Him to leave the world and go to the Father, and as He had loved His own in the world He loved them to the last. And they devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship with one another, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Day after day they regularly attended the temple; they practiced breaking their bread together in their homes, and eating their food with glad and simple hearts, constantly praising God and always having the favor of all the people. And every day the Lord continued to add to them the people who were being saved.

On the first day of the week when we had met to break bread, Paul addressed them, since he was leaving the next day, and prolonged his speech till midnight.

Is not the consecrated cup which we consecrate a sign of our sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the loaf which we break a sign of our sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is only one loaf, so we, though many, are only one body, for we all partake of one loaf.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot eat at the table of the Lord and at the table of demons. Or, are we trying to incite the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?

So when you hold your meetings, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper, for each of you is in a rush to eat his own supper, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk. It is not that you have no houses to eat and drink in, is it? Or, are you trying to show your contempt for the church of God and trying to humiliate those who have no houses? What shall I say to you? For the account that I passed on to you I myself received from the Lord Himself, that the Lord Jesus on the night He was betrayed took a loaf of bread and gave thanks for it and broke it and said, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me." In the same way, after supper, He took the cup of wine, saying, "This cup is the new covenant ratified by my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me." For every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again. So whoever eats the bread and drinks from the Lord's cup in an unworthy way is guilty of sinning against the Lord's body and blood. A man, then, must examine himself, and only in this way should he eat any of the bread and drink from the cup. For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing His body, eats and drinks a judgment on himself. This is why many of you are sick and feeble, and a considerable number are falling asleep. But if we properly saw ourselves, we would not bring down upon us this judgment. But since we do bring down upon us this judgment, we are being disciplined by the Lord, so that finally we may not be condemned along with the world. So, my brothers, when you meet to eat, wait for one another. If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that your meetings may not bring on you judgment.
