Because thou sayst, I am rich, and have inriched myself, and have need of nothing, and knowest not, that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

Now the just shall live by faith; but if he draw back, my soul hath no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back to perdition, but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

They answered him, We are Abraham's offspring, and were never inslaved to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free.

Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law,

Now we know that whatsoever the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be found guilty before God. Therefore no flesh shall be justified in his sight by the works of the law; for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

And he spake this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others.

Charge the rich in this world not to be high-minded, neither to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy:

For I have no room where to stow my fruits. And he said, This I will do: I will pull down my barns and build greater; and there will I stow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years: take thine ease; eat, drink, and be merry. But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: and whose shall the things be that thou hast provided?
