But having obtained help of God, I continue until this day, testifying both to small and great, and saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses declared should come to pass; even that the Messiah should suffer, and being the first of the resurrection from the dead should bring light to the people and to the Gentiles."
And beginning from Moses, and all the prophets, He explained to them in all the scriptures the things that were spoken concerning Himself.
Ye search the scriptures; for ye think that in them ye have eternal life: and they testify of me: and yet ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.
Having therefore so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every incumbrance, and the sin that easily besets us, and run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the leader and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John: this man came for witness, that he might testify concerning the light, that through him all might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of the light.
Now in those days came John the baptist preaching in the desert part of Judea, and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand: for this is He who was spoken of by Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the desert, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but He that cometh after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: He shall baptize you with the holy Spirit and with fire. Whose fan is in his hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather the wheat into his granary, but will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
saying, There cometh after me one mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the holy Spirit.
Now as the people were in suspense, and were all thinking in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ or not, John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but a mightier than I is coming, whose shoes I am not worthy to untie: He will baptize you with the holy Spirit, and with fire; whose fan is in his hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather the wheat into his granary, but will burn up the chaff in unquenchable fire.read more.
And many other things by way of exhortation did he preach unto the people.
Of Him did John bare witness, and publicly declared, saying, This was He of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for He was before me.
And they came to John, and said unto him, Rabbi, He that was with thee on the other side Jordan, to whom thou barest testimony, behold, He baptizeth and all the people come to Him. John answered and said, A man can take nothing upon him, unless it be given him from heaven. Ye your selves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but am sent before Him.read more.
He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with great joy at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore my joy is complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.
Ye your selves sent unto John, and he bore witness to the truth: though I need not testimony from man; but I say these things that ye may be saved. He was indeed a burning and shining light, and for a while ye willingly rejoiced in his light.
But when the comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, (even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father,) He shall testify of me.
and we are his witnesses of what we declare; and so is the holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.
So that the Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
This is He that came by water and by blood, even Jesus the Messiah; not with water only, but with water and blood: and of this the Spirit beareth witness, for the Spirit is truth. Yea there are three that bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.read more.
Now if we admit the testimony of men, sure the testimony of God is greater: and this is the testimony of God, which He hath testified concerning his Son.

But I have a testimony greater than John's: for the works which the Father hath given me to perform, the very works which I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I am going; but ye know not whence I come, nor whither I go.
Ye call me, Master, and Lord; and ye say well; for so I am.
Believe me therefore that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: at lest, believe me for the very works.
Jesus answered them, I have told you, and ye do not believe me: though the works that I do in the name of my Father, testify of me.
If I had not done among them such works as no other ever did, they had not comparatively had sin: but now they have both seen, and hated, both me and my Father.
But ye shall receive power from the holy Spirit coming upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.
Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues. And ye shall be brought before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations: but when they take you up, be not sollicitous how, or what ye shall say; for ye shall be taught in that very instant what ye shall speak: for it is not you that speak,read more.

But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues, and prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake: but it shall be for a testimony to you.
So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, judge ye: for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.read more.
So they threatened them more severely, and let them go; not finding how to punish them, because of the people: for they all glorified God for that which was done.
Whereas many have undertaken to compose a narrative of the things, which have been fully certified among us; as they delivered them to us, who were from the beginning eye-witnesses of them, and ministers of the word;
Wherefore it is necessary that one of these men, who have been conversant with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and out among us, from the baptism of John, till the day that He was taken up from us, should be joined with us as a witness of his resurrection.

And he said, The God of our Fathers hath before appointed thee to know his will, and to see the just One, and to hear a voice from his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men, of what thou hast seen and heard.
And the following night, the Lord standing by him said, Paul, be of good courage; for as thou hast testified concerning me at Jerusalem, so must thou also bear testimony at Rome.
But rise, and stand on thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things which thou hast seen, and of those for which I shall hereafter appear unto thee:
how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which began to be declared by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard Him;
The elders that are among you I exhort, who am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker of the glory which shall be revealed; feed the flock of God that is among you,
For we did not follow artfully devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but were eye-witnesses of his majesty.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have contemplated, and our very hands have felt concerning the Word of life,
and be always ready to answer every one that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and reverence: having a good conscience, that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who calumniate your good conversation in Christ.
Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but bear thy part in the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God;
