If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not?
You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.
Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are trained by it.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.
And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight unto your soul.
And, you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.
Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with a rod, he shall not die. You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from sheol.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.
Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them to your sons, and your sons' sons;
And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land which you go over Jordan to possess.
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother:
My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not the law of your mother:
And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
