I heard the voice of Jehovah. He said: Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said: Here I am. Send me! He said: Go and tell this people: 'Hear constantly but do not understand. See constantly but do not perceive.'
Now the word of Jehovah came to Jonah the son of Amittai. He said: Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim against her that Jehovah has seen their terrible wickedness.
He said: 'The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will. You are to see his righteous servant, and to hear him speak with his own voice. You will be a witness for him to tell everyone what you have seen and heard.
Because of this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle. What I say is true, not false, and I am a teacher of the nations in the true faith.
Though I preach the good news I do not brag about it. Preaching the good news is my duty (obligation) and I must do it! It would be terrible if I did not preach the good news! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward. But if I do it against my will, I am just performing the trust of the good news committed to me.
But if I say: I will not remember him or speak anymore in his name, then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in. I cannot endure it.
The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah has spoken! Who will not prophesy?
Son of man, I have made you a watchman over the people of Israel. Listen to what I say, and warn them for me. When I tell a wicked man that he will surely die, but you do not warn him or speak out so that he can change his wicked way in order to save his life; that wicked man will die because of his sin. I will hold you responsible for his death. When you warn the wicked man, and he does not turn from his wicked way; he will die because of his sin, but you will save yourself.read more.
If righteous people turn from living the right way and do wrong, I will make them stumble and they will die. If you do not warn them, they will die because of their sin. The right things they did will not be remembered. I will hold you responsible for their deaths.
Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the people of Israel. Listen to what I say and warn them for me. Suppose I say to a wicked person, 'You wicked person, you will certainly die.' Faithful is the saying, and worthy of acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost. There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus who is currently from Italy with his wife Priscilla. Claudius commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. So he came to them.
