And he said, The God of our Fathers hath before appointed thee to know his will, and to see the just One, and to hear a voice from his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men, of what thou hast seen and heard.
Therefore having received this ministry, as we have obtained mercy, we are not disheartened:
for which I was appointed a herald and an apostle. I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not; I am a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
For if I preach the gospel, yet I have no ground for boasting; because I am under necessity to do it: and wo is me if I do not preach the Gospel. Now if I do this willingly, I have a reward; and if unwillingly, yet I am intrusted with the commission, and I must execute it.
According to the grace of God given to me, as a wise architect I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon: but let every one see to it how he buildeth thereon. For no one can lay any other foundation, but that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ: and if any build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, or wood, hay, stubble;read more.
every man's work shall be made manifest. For the great day will shew it; because it will be discovered by fire, and the fire will prove every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide, which he hath built upon it, he shall receive a reward: but if any man's work be burnt, he will be damaged; though he himself shall be saved, but, as it were out of fire.
For we must all appear before the tribunal of Christ, that every one may receive for the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it were good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men: but if not, we are manifest unto God, and I hope we are also manifested to your consciences:

being studious however so to preach the gospel, not where Christ had been named, least I should build upon another man's foundation;

The Lord is not slow as to his promise (as some count it slowness) but is long-suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

It is a truth highly to be believed, and worthy to be received by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners:---of whom I am one of the chief. But for this end I obtained mercy, that in me a chief sinner Jesus Christ might display his long-suffering, for an example to those who should afterwards believe on Him to eternal life.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, both Jew and Greek: for the righteousness of God is therein revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they related what God had done by them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way, for he is the instrument I have chosen, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
But ye shall receive power from the holy Spirit coming upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.
but when they take you up, be not sollicitous how, or what ye shall say; for ye shall be taught in that very instant what ye shall speak: for it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh by you.
But when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not anxiously careful beforehand what ye shall speak, neither premeditate: but whatever shall be suggested to you at that very time, this speak: for it is not you that speak, but the holy Spirit.
And when they bring you before the synagogues, and magistrates, and powers, be not solicitous how or what defence to make, or what to say: for the holy Spirit shall teach you at that very time what ye ought to say.
But when the comforter is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, (even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father,) He shall testify of me. And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much certainty; as ye know what sort of persons we were among you for your sakes.
Now they that were dispersed went about preaching the word. And Philip coming to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them.
Now they that were dispersed by the trouble, which arose about Stephen, travelled as far as Phenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but the Jews only. but the Jews stirred up devout and honorable women, and the heads of the city, and raised a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their territories. But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
being apprised of it they fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the adjacent country: and there they preached the gospel.
And finding there a certain Jew, named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who was lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, (because Claudius Cesar had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome,) he went to them;
