'Called' in the Bible
a wise woman called out from the city, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come here and let me speak with him.”
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,and I was saved from my enemies.
I called to the Lord in my distress;I called to my God.From His temple He heard my voice,and my cry for help reached His ears.
may You hear in heaven, Your dwelling place,and do according to all the foreigner asks You for.Then all the people on earth will know Your name,to fear You as Your people Israel doand know that this temple I have builtis called by Your name.
So he said, “What are these towns you’ve given me, my brother?” So he called them the Land of Cabul, as they are still called today.
So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow woman gathering wood. Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup and let me drink.”
As she went to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.”
Ahab called for Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. Obadiah was a man who greatly feared the Lord
So they took the bull that he gave them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound; no one answered. Then they danced, hobbling around the altar they had made.
Then the king of Israel called for all the elders of the land and said, “Think it over and you will see that this one is only looking for trouble, for he demanded my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold, and I didn’t turn him down.”
So the king of Israel called an officer and said, “Hurry and get Micaiah son of Imlah!”
He ordered his attendant Gehazi, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her and she stood before him.
“Call her,” Elisha said. So Gehazi called her, and she stood in the doorway.
Elisha called Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite woman.” He called her and she came. Then Elisha said, “Pick up your son.”
The king of Aram was enraged because of this matter, and he called his servants and demanded of them, “Tell me, which one of us is for the king of Israel?”
The diseased men went and called to the city’s gatekeepers and told them, “We went to the Aramean camp and no one was there—no human sounds. There was nothing but tethered horses and donkeys, and the tents were intact.”
The gatekeepers called out, and the news was reported to the king’s household.
The prophet Elisha called one of the sons of the prophets and said, “Tuck your mantle under your belt, take this flask of oil with you, and go to Ramoth-gilead.
Jehu commanded, “Consecrate a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they called one.
So King Joash called Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said, “Why haven’t you repaired the temple’s damage? Since you haven’t, don’t take any money from your assessors; instead, hand it over for the repair of the temple.”
Amaziah killed 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He took Sela in battle and called it Joktheel, which is its name to this very day.
He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made, for the Israelites burned incense to it up to that time. He called it Nehushtan.
Then they called for the king, but Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was in charge of the palace, Shebnah the court secretary, and Joah son of Asaph, the court historian, came out to them.

A Levite called Mattithiah, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with baking the bread.
Then David took up residence in the stronghold; therefore, it was called the city of David.
David and all Israel went to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim that belongs to Judah) to take the ark of God from there, which is called by the name of the Lord who dwells between the cherubim.
He built an altar to the Lord there and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the Lord, and He answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.

and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
So the king of Israel called an officer and said, “Hurry and get Micaiah son of Imlah!”
They assembled in the Valley of Beracah on the fourth day, for there they praised the Lord. Therefore, that place is still called the Valley of Beracah today.
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by the Lord’s servant Moses and the assembly of Israel for the tent of the testimony?
Then they called out loudly in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem, who were on the wall, to frighten and discourage them in order that he might capture the city.
and from the descendants of the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, the descendants of Barzillai—who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name.
After seriously considering the matter, I accused the nobles and officials, saying to them, “Each of you is charging his countrymen interest.” So I called a large assembly against them

to provide for those who mourn in Zion;to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,festive oil instead of mourning,and splendid clothes instead of despair.And they will be called righteous trees,planted by the Lordto glorify Him.
But you will be called the Lord’s priests;they will speak of you as ministers of our God;you will eat the wealth of the nations,and you will boast in their riches.
Nations will see your righteousnessand all kings, your glory.You will be called by a new namethat the Lord’s mouth will announce.
You will no longer be called Deserted,and your land will not be called Desolate;instead, you will be called My Delight is in Her,and your land Married;for the Lord delights in you,and your land will be married.
And they will be called the Holy People,the Lord’s Redeemed;and you will be called Cared For,A City Not Deserted.
We have become like those You never ruled over,like those not called by Your name. >
“I was sought by those who did not ask;I was found by those who did not seek Me.I said: Here I am, here I am,to a nation that was not called by My name.
I will destine you for the sword,and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered,because I called and you did not answer,I spoke and you did not hear;you did what was evil in My sightand chose what I did not delight in.
So I will choose their punishment,and I will bring on them what they dreadbecause I called and no one answered;I spoke and they didn’t hear;they did what was evil in My sightand chose what I didn’t delight in.
Have you not lately called to Me, “My Father.You were my friend in my youth.
At that time Jerusalem will be called, Yahweh’s Throne, and all the nations will be gathered to it, to the name of Yahweh in Jerusalem. They will cease to follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.
They are called rejected silver,for the Lord has rejected them.
Then do you come and stand before Me in this house called by My name and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue doing all these detestable acts’?
Now, because you have done all these things”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and because I have spoken to you time and time again but you wouldn’t listen, and I have called to you, but you wouldn’t answer,
what I did to Shiloh I will do to the house that is called by My name—the house in which you trust—the place that I gave you and your ancestors.
“For the Judeans have done what is evil in My sight.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “They have set up their detestable things in the house that is called by My name and defiled it.
“Therefore, take note! Days are coming”—the Lord’s declaration—“when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. Topheth will become a cemetery, because there will be no other burial place.
