'Day' in the Bible

And the inhabitants of this coastland will say on that day, ‘Look, this is what has happened to those we relied on and fled to for help to rescue us from the king of Assyria! Now, how will we escape?’”

Then the lookout reported,“Lord, I stand on the watchtower all day,and I stay at my post all night.

For the Lord God of Hostshad a day of tumult, trampling, and confusionin the Valley of Vision—people shouting and crying to the mountains;

He removed the defenses of Judah.On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest.

On that day”—the declaration of the Lord of Hosts—“the peg that was driven into a firm place will give way, be cut off, and fall, and the load on it will be destroyed.” Indeed, the Lord has spoken.

On that day Tyre will be forgotten for 70 years—the life span of one king. At the end of 70 years, what the song says about the prostitute will happen to Tyre:

On that day the Lord will punishthe host of heaven aboveand kings of the earth below.

like heat in a dry land,You subdue the uproar of barbarians.As the shade of a cloud cools the heat of the day,so He silences the song of the violent.

On that day it will be said,“Look, this is our God;we have waited for Him, and He has saved us.This is the Lord; we have waited for Him.Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”

On that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:We have a strong city.Salvation is established as walls and ramparts.

On that day the Lord with His harsh, great, and strong sword, will bring judgment on Leviathan, the fleeing serpent—Leviathan, the twisting serpent. He will slay the monster that is in the sea.

You disputed with herby banishing and driving her away.He removed her with His severe stormon the day of the east wind.

On that daythe Lord will thresh grain from the Euphrates Riveras far as the Wadi of Egypt,and you Israelites will be gathered one by one.

On that daya great trumpet will be blown,and those lost in the land of Assyria will come,as well as those dispersed in the land of Egypt;and they will worship the Lordat Jerusalem on the holy mountain.

On that daythe Lord of Hosts will become a crown of beautyand a diadem of splendorto the remnant of His people,

Every time it passes through,it will carry you away;it will pass through every morning—every day and every night.Only terror will cause youto understand the message.

On that day the deaf will hearthe words of a document,and out of a deep darknessthe eyes of the blind will see.

Then He will send rain for your seed that you have sown in the ground, and the food, the produce of the ground, will be rich and plentiful. On that day your cattle will graze in open pastures.

Streams flowing with water will be on every high mountain and every raised hill on the day of great slaughter when the towers fall.

The moonlight will be as bright as the sunlight, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the Lord bandages His people’s injuries and heals the wounds He inflicted.

For on that day, every one of you will reject the silver and gold idols that your own hands have sinfully made.

For the Lord has a day of vengeance,a time of paying back Edomfor its hostility against Zion.

It will never go out—day or night.Its smoke will go up forever.It will be desolate, from generation to generation;no one will pass through it forever and ever.

So now what have I here”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“that My people are taken away for nothing?Its rulers wail”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and My name is continually blasphemed all day long.

Therefore My people will know My name;therefore they will know on that daythat I am He who says:Here I am.”

They seek Me day after dayand delight to know My ways,like a nation that does what is rightand does not abandon the justice of their God.They ask Me for righteous judgments;they delight in the nearness of God.”

“Why have we fasted, but You have not seen?We have denied ourselves, but You haven’t noticed!”“Look, you do as you please on the day of your fast,and oppress all your workers.

Will the fast I choose be like this:A day for a person to deny himself,to bow his head like a reed,and to spread out sackcloth and ashes?Will you call this a fastand a day acceptable to the Lord?

“If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath,from doing whatever you want on My holy day;if you call the Sabbath a delight,and the holy day of the Lord honorable;if you honor it, not going your own ways,seeking your own pleasure, or talking too much;

Your gates will always be open;they will never be shut day or nightso that the wealth of the nationsmay be brought into you,with their kings being led in procession.

The sun will no longer be your light by day,and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you;but the Lord will be your everlasting light,and your God will be your splendor.

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,and the day of our God’s vengeance;to comfort all who mourn,

Jerusalem,I have appointed watchmen on your walls;they will never be silent, day or night.There is no rest for you,who remind the Lord.

They say, ‘Keep to yourself,don’t come near me, for I am too holy for you!’These practices are smoke in My nostrils,a fire that burns all day long.

Let us lie down in our shame;let our disgrace cover us.We have sinned against the Lord our God,both we and our fathers,from the time of our youth even to this day.We have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

“On that day”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“the king and the officials will lose their courage. The priests will tremble in fear, and the prophets will be scared speechless.”

Set them apart for war against her;rise up, let’s attack at noon.Woe to us, for the day is passing;the evening shadows grow long.

Since the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent all My servants the prophets to you time and time again.

This is what the Lord says: Watch yourselves; do not pick up a load and bring it in through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.

“However, if you listen to Me, says the Lord, and do not bring loads through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day and consecrate the Sabbath day and do no work on it,

If you do not listen to Me to consecrate the Sabbath day by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, I will set fire to its gates, and it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem and not be extinguished.”

I will scatter them before the enemy like the east wind.I will show them My back and not My faceon the day of their calamity.

The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call you Pashhur, but Magor-missabib,

You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt and do so to this very day both in Israel and among mankind. You made a name for Yourself, as is the case today.

“for this city has caused My wrath and fury from the day it was built until now. I will therefore remove it from My presence,

“This is what the Lord says: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night so that day and night cease to come at their regular time,

So King Zedekiah gave orders, and Jeremiah was placed in the guard’s courtyard. He was given a loaf of bread each day from the baker’s street until all the bread was gone from the city. So Jeremiah remained in the guard’s courtyard.

That day belongs to the Lord, the God of Hosts,a day of vengeance to avenge Himselfagainst His adversaries.The sword will devour and be satisfied;it will drink its fill of their blood,because it will be a sacrifice to the Lord, the God of Hosts,in the northern land by the Euphrates River.

Even her mercenaries among herare like stall-fed calves.They too will turn back;together they will flee;they will not take their stand,for the day of their calamity is coming on them,the time of their punishment.

on account of the day that is comingto destroy all the Philistines,to cut off from Tyre and Sidonevery remaining ally.Indeed, the Lord is about to destroy the Philistines,the remnant of the islands of Caphtor.

The towns have been captured,and the strongholds seized.In that day the heart of Moab’s warriorswill be like the heart of a woman with contractions.

Look! It will be like an eagle soaring upward, then swooping down and spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman with contractions.

Put all her young bulls to the sword;let them go down to the slaughter.Woe to them, because their day has come,the time of their punishment.

Look, I am against you, you arrogant one—this is the declaration ofthe Lord God of Hosts—because your day has come,the time when I will punish you.

I will send strangers to Babylonwho will scatter her and strip her land bare,for they will come against herfrom every side in the day of disaster.

In the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon advanced against Jerusalem with his entire army. They laid siege to the city and built a siege wall all around it.

By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was so severe in the city that the people of the land had no food.

Then he blinded Zedekiah and bound him with bronze chains. The king of Babylon brought Zedekiah to Babylon, where he kept him in custody until his dying day.
