Then the brethren promptly sent Paul down to the sea-coast, but Silas and Timothy remained behind.
When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with preaching the message and solemnly testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.
So he settled there for a year and six months, teaching them the word of God [concerning eternal salvation through faith in Christ].
and he came down to Ephesus, and did leave them there, and he himself having entered into the synagogue did reason with the Jews:
And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
It happened that while Apollos was in Corinth, Paul went through the upper [inland] districts and came down to Ephesus, and found some disciples.
and not only is this department in danger for us of coming into disregard, but also, that of the great goddess Artemis the temple is to be reckoned for nothing, and also her greatness is about to be brought down, whom all Asia and the world doth worship.'
And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
specially pained by the word which he had said, that they would no more see his face. And they went down with him to the ship.
And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.
And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;
And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.
The tribune gave him permission, and Paul, standing on the steps, motioned for the people to be silent. When everyone had quieted down, he spoke to them in the Hebrew language:
And when I went down on the earth, a voice came to my ears saying to me, Saul, Saul, why are you attacking me so cruelly?
On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.
Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
Wanting to know the charge they were accusing him of, I brought him down before their Sanhedrin.
After five days Ananias the high priest came down with some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus. These men presented their case against Paul to the governor.
But I confess this to you, that according to the Way, which they call a [divisive and heretical] sect, I do worship and serve the God of our fathers, [confidently] believing everything that is in accordance with the Law [of Moses] and that is written in the Prophets;
And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
And certain days having passed, Agrippa the king, and Bernice, came down to Caesarea saluting Festus,
So they came here with me, and the next day without any delay I sat down in the judge's seat and ordered the man to be brought in.
I would even punish them frequently in every synagogue and try to make them blaspheme. Raging furiously against them, I would hunt them down even in distant cities.
And when we had all gone down on the earth, a voice came to me, saying in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why are you attacking me so cruelly? It is hard for you to go against the impulse which is driving you.
And sailing down the side of it, as well as we were able, we came to a certain place named Fair Havens, near which was the town of Lasea.
And when the south wind came softly, being of the opinion that their purpose might be effected, they let the ship go and went sailing down the side of Crete, very near to the land.
But not long afterward, a fierce wind called the “northeaster” rushed down from the island.
which having taken up, they were using helps, undergirding the ship, and fearing lest they may fall on the quicksand, having let down the mast -- so were borne on.
But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
And they let down the lead, and saw that the sea was a hundred and twenty feet deep; and after a little time they did it again and it was ninety feet.
And [because they] were afraid lest somewhere we run aground against rough places, they threw down four anchors from the stern [and] prayed for day to come.
And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
And it happened that the father of Publius was lying down, afflicted with fever and dysentery. Paul went to {him} and [after] praying, he placed [his] hands on him [and] healed him.
for revealed is the wrath of God from heaven upon all impiety and unrighteousness of men, holding down the truth in unrighteousness.
Well then, are we [Jews] better off than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks (Gentiles) are under the control of sin and subject to its power.
Why, it is scarcely conceivable that any one would die for a simply just man, although for a good and lovable man perhaps some one, here and there, will have the courage even to lay down his life.
Having knowledge that because Christ has come back from the dead, he will never again go down to the dead; death has no more power over him.
For Moses lays down in writing the righteousness which is of the law, The man who has practised those things shall live by them.
But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
or, “Who will go down into the abyss?” that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
But what was God’s reply to him? I have left 7,000 men for Myself who have not bowed down to Baal.
just as it is written,“God gave them a spirit of stupor,Eyes to see not and ears to hear not,Down to this very day.”
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
Therefore whoever resists [governmental] authority resists the ordinance of God. And those who have resisted it will bring judgment (civil penalty) on themselves.
One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat, and one who does not eat must not criticize one who does, because God has accepted him.
But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the tribunal of God.
Do not tear down God’s work because of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong for a man to cause stumbling by what he eats.
Now those things which were put down in writing before our time were for our learning, so that through quiet waiting and through the comfort of the holy Writings we might have hope.
Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
For there is no other base for the building but that which has been put down, which is Jesus Christ.
But I say this, believers: the time has been shortened, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they did not;
But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down as a warning for us in whom the culmination of the ages has been attained.
Now I am pleased to see that you keep me in memory in all things, and that you give attention to the teaching which was handed down from me to you.
Don’t you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this!
For it was handed down to me from the Lord, as I gave it to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night when Judas was false to him, took bread,
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
And if someone sitting down receives a revelation, the person who is speaking should conclude.
For I gave to you first of all what was handed down to me, how Christ underwent death for our sins, as it says in the Writings;
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
Therefore, no one should look down on him. Send him on his way in peace so he can come to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.
For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
He has also sealed us and given us the Spirit as a down payment in our hearts.
But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil [of blindness] lies over their heart;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
We know that if the earthly tent we live in is torn down, we have a building in heaven that comes from God, an eternal house not built by human hands.
For we groan while we are in this tent, since we are weighed down, because we do not want to be unclothed, but clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
And the One who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment.
Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
For if I boast some more about our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I am not ashamed.
And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.
This is why I am writing these things while absent, that when I am there I will not use severity, in keeping with the authority the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
and was progressing in Judaism beyond many contemporaries in my nation, [because] I was a far more zealous adherent of the traditions handed down by my forefathers.
If I rebuild the system I tore down, I show myself to be a lawbreaker.
Why then was the Law given? It was imposed later on for the sake of defining sin, until the seed should come to whom God had made the promise; and its details were laid down by a mediator with the help of angels.
He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.
in which he wrought in the Christ in raising him from among the dead, and he set him down at his right hand in the heavenlies,
and has raised us up together, and has made us sit down together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
For this cause I go down on my knees before the Father,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been [deeply] rooted and [securely] grounded in love,
Now what does this "he went up" mean except that he also had gone down into the lower parts of the earth?
The one who went down is the same one who went up above all the heavens so that all things would be fulfilled.
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
It is the same to me if I am looked down on or honoured; everywhere and in all things I have the secret of how to be full and how to go without food; how to have wealth and how to be in need.
With a shout of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of God's trumpet, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, and the dead who belong to the Messiah will rise first.
