'Helpless' in the Bible

“If you see the donkey of someone who hates you lying helpless under its load, and you want to refrain from helping it, you must help with it.

The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”

So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me, where does your great strength come from? How could someone tie you up and make you helpless?”

Then she let him fall asleep on her lap and called a man to shave off the seven braids on his head. In this way, she made him helpless, and his strength left him.

But in the morning, when Nabal was sober, and his wife told him these things, his heart died within him and he became [paralyzed and helpless] like a stone.

Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

“So the helpless has hope,And unrighteousness must shut its mouth.

“They break up and clutter my path [upsetting my plans],They profit from my destruction;No one restrains them.

so that [they] cause [the] cry of distress from [the] helpless to come to him, and he hears [the] cry of distress from [the] needy,

He waits in ambush near the villages;he kills the innocent in secret places.His eyes are on the lookout for the helpless;

Their eyes secretly watch the helpless, lying in wait like a lion in his den. They lie in wait to catch the afflicted. They catch the afflicted when they pull him into their net.

So he is oppressed and beaten down;the helpless fall because of his strength.

Arise, Yahweh! God, lift up your hand! Don't forget the helpless.

But You Yourself have seen trouble and grief,observing it in order to take the matter into Your hands.The helpless entrusts himself to You;You are a helper of the fatherless.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.How blessed is he who considers the helpless;The Lord will deliver him in a day of trouble.

He will have pity on the poor and helplessand save the lives of the poor.

The bravehearted were plundered; they "fell asleep." All the warriors were helpless.

So your poverty will come like an approaching prowler who walks [slowly, but surely]And your need [will come] like an armed man [making you helpless].

Don't rob the poor person because he is poor, and don't crush the helpless in court,

A poor man who oppresseth the helpless is a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

A wicked ruler over a helpless peopleis like a roaring lion or a charging bear.

“Those who are most helpless will eat,And the needy will lie down in security;I will destroy your root with famine,And it will kill off your survivors.

In that day the Egyptians will become like [helpless] women, and they will tremble and be frightened because of the waving of the hand of the Lord of hosts, which He is going to wave over them.

For You have been a defense for the helpless,A defense for the needy in his distress,A refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat;For the breath of the ruthlessIs like a rain storm against a wall.

“The foot will trample it,The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless.”

Your sons have fainted,They lie helpless at the head of every street,Like an antelope in a net,Full of the wrath of the Lord,The rebuke of your God.

The people cry out, "We have heard reports about them! We have become helpless with fear! Anguish grips us, agony like that of a woman giving birth to a baby!

Why are You like a helpless man,like a warrior unable to save?Yet You are among us, Yahweh,and we are called by Your name.Don’t leave us!

At the sound of the stomping hooves of his stallions,the rumbling of his chariots,and the clatter of their wheels,fathers will not turn back for their sons,because they will be utterly helpless

In the shadows of the walls of Heshbon those trying to escape will stand helpless. For a fire will burst forth from Heshbon. Flames will shoot out from the former territory of Sihon. They will burn the foreheads of the people of Moab, the skulls of those war-loving people.

“Damascus has become helpless;She has turned away to flee,And panic has gripped her;Distress and pangs have taken hold of herLike a woman in childbirth.

The king of Babylon has heard reports about them,and his hands fall helpless.Distress has seized him—pain, like a woman in labor.

“These who pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helplessAlso turn aside the way of the humble;And a man and his father resort to the same girlIn order to profane My holy name.

So as to buy the helpless for moneyAnd the needy for a pair of sandals,And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?”

Behold, your people are [as weak and helpless as] women in your midst!The gates of your land are opened wide to your enemies;Fire consumes the bars across your gates.
