'Investigate' in the Bible

When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and when he approached to investigate, there came the voice of the Lord,

So now you, along with the Sanhedrin, make a request to the commander that he bring him down to you as if you were going to investigate his case more thoroughly. However, before he gets near, we are ready to kill him.”

I was puzzled how I should investigate such matters, so I asked if he would like to go to Jerusalem and be tried there for these things.
