And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulderpieces of the ephod, as stones of memorial for the sons of Israel, - so shall Aaron bear their names before Yahweh upon his two shoulders, for a memorial.

The 12 stones are to correspond to the names of Israels sons. Each stone must be engraved like a seal, with one of the names of the 12 tribes.

“Whenever he enters the sanctuary, Aaron is to carry the names of Israels sons over his heart on the breastpiece for decisions, as a continual reminder before the Lord.

You are to put the Urim and Thummim into the breast piece of judgment, and they are to be on Aaron's heart when he goes into the LORD's presence. He is to carry the breast piece of decision that depicts Israel's sons on his heart in the LORD's presence continuously."

Then they mounted the onyx stones surrounded with gold filigree settings, engraved with the names of Israels sons as a gem cutter engraves a seal.

The 12 stones corresponded to the names of Israels sons. Each stone was engraved like a seal with one of the names of the 12 tribes.

" 'If Israel's whole assembly did wrong unintentionally and the matter was concealed from the assembly's eyes, and they acted [against] {any of} Yahweh's commands that should not be {violated}, so that they incur guilt,

Then on the eighth day Moses summoned Aaron and his sons and Israel's elders,

However, if one is sounded, only the leaders, the heads of Israels clans, are to gather before you.

When Phinehas the priest and the community leaders, the heads of Israels clans who were with him, heard what the descendants of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh had to say, they were pleased.

What they said pleased the people of Israel, so they blessed God and said no more about going up to attack them in war and to destroy the land where the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad were living.

Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem and summoned Israels elders, leaders, judges, and officers, and they presented themselves before God.
