'Life' in the Bible
And Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, Rise up and go, thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn; for Jehovah has called for a famine, and it shall also come upon the land for seven years.
And it came to pass as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
And they entered in to offer sacrifices and burnt-offerings. Now Jehu appointed eighty men without, and said, He that allows any of the men to escape that I have brought into your hands, his life shall be for the life of him.
And he changed his prison garments; and he ate bread before him continually all the days of his life;
and his allowance was a continual allowance given him by the king, every day a portion, all the days of his life.
For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no hope of life.
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of them that hate thee, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked for thyself wisdom and knowledge, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
that they may present sweet odours to the God of the heavens, and pray for the life of the king and of his sons.
And Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found grace in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request;
And the king in his wrath rose up from the banquet of wine, and went into the palace garden; but Haman stayed to make request for his life to Esther the queen, for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
stating that the king granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that might assault them, their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,
And the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their life, and had rest from their enemies; and they slew of them that hated them seventy-five thousand (but they laid not their hand on the prey),
And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life;
And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand; only spare his life.
Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,
Hath not man a life of labour upon earth? and are not his days like the days of a hireling?
Remember thou that my life is wind; mine eye shall no more see good.
Were I perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
My soul is weary of my life: I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy care hath preserved my spirit;
And life shall arise brighter than noonday; though thou be enshrouded in darkness, thou shalt be as the morning,
But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and all refuge shall vanish from them, and their hope shall be the breathing out of life.
Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?
He draweth also the mighty with his power; he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
(Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse;)
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.
And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;
And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.
He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.
Their soul dieth in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
Let the enemy pursue after my soul, and take it, and let him tread down my life to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.
Thou wilt make known to me the path of life: thy countenance is fulness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.
From men who are thy hand, O Jehovah, from men of this age: their portion is in this life, and their belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure; they have their fill of sons, and leave the rest of their substance to their children.

For a moment is passed in his anger, a life in his favour; at even weeping cometh for the night, and at morn there is rejoicing.
For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth through mine iniquity, and my bones are wasted.
For I have heard the slander of many terror on every side when they take counsel together against me: they plot to take away my life.
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth days, that he may see good?
Let them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
And they that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long.
In the day-time will Jehovah command his loving-kindness, and in the night his song shall be with me, a prayer unto the God of my life.
For strangers are risen up against me, and the violent seek after my life: they have not set God before them. Selah.
For thy loving-kindness is better than life: my lips shall praise thee.
{To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Hear, O God, my voice in my plaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy:
Who hath set our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
Let them be blotted out of the book of life, and not be written with the righteous.
He made a way for his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draweth nigh to Sheol.
Remember, as regards me, what life is. Wherefore hast thou created all the children of men to be vanity?

So are the paths of every one that is greedy of gain: it taketh away the life of its possessors.
none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:
for length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.
so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.
Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.
Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go: keep her, for she is thy life.
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.

The mouth of a righteous man is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
The labour of a righteous man tendeth to life; the revenue of a wicked man, to sin.
Keeping instruction is the path to life; but he that forsaketh reproof goeth astray.
As righteousness tendeth to life, so he that pursueth evil doeth it to his own death.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and the wise winneth souls.
A righteous man is concerned for the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
In the path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Behold what I have seen good and comely: it is to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labour wherewith man laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for that is his portion.
