'Lord' in the Bible

This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:Because of you, I will send to Babylonand bring all of them as fugitives,even the Chaldeans in the ships in which they rejoice.

This is what the Lord says—who makes a way in the sea,and a path through surging waters,

This is the word of the Lordyour Maker who formed you from the womb;He will help you:Do not fear; Jacob is My servant;I have chosen Jeshurun.

This is what the Lord, the King of Israel and its Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts, says:I am the first and I am the last.There is no God but Me.

Rejoice, heavens, for the Lord has acted;shout, depths of the earth.Break out into singing, mountains,forest, and every tree in it.For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,and glorifies Himself through Israel.

This is what the Lord, your Redeemer who formed you from the womb, says:I am Yahweh, who made everything;who stretched out the heavens by Myself;who alone spread out the earth;

I will give you the treasures of darknessand riches from secret places,so that you may know that I, Yahweh,the God of Israel call you by your name.

I am Yahweh, and there is no other;there is no God but Me.I will strengthen you,though you do not know Me,

so that all may know from the rising of the sun to its settingthat there is no one but Me.I am Yahweh, and there is no other.

“Heavens, sprinkle from above,and let the skies shower righteousness.Let the earth open upso that salvation will sproutand righteousness will spring up with it.I, Yahweh, have created it.

This is what the Lord,the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says:“Ask Me what is to happen to My sons,and instruct Me about the work of My hands.

I have raised him up in righteousness,and will level all roads for him.He will rebuild My city,and set My exiles free,not for a price or a bribe,”says the Lord of Hosts.

This is what the Lord says:The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cushand the Sabeans, men of stature,will come over to youand will be yours;they will follow you,they will come over in chainsand bow down to you.They will confess to you:God is indeed with you, and there is no other;there is no other God.

Israel will be saved by the Lordwith an everlasting salvation;you will not be put to shame or humiliatedfor all eternity.

For this is what the Lord says—God is the Creator of the heavens.He formed the earth and made it.He established it;He did not create it to be empty,but formed it to be inhabited—“I am Yahweh,and there is no other.

I have not spoken in secret,somewhere in a land of darkness.I did not say to the descendants of Jacob:Seek Me in a wasteland.I, Yahweh, speak truthfully;I say what is right.

Speak up and present your case—yes, let them take counsel together.Who predicted this long ago?Who announced it from ancient times?Was it not I, Yahweh?There is no other God but Me,a righteous God and Savior;there is no one except Me.

It will be said to Me: Righteousness and strengthis only in the Lord.”All who are enraged against Himwill come to Him and be put to shame.

All the descendants of Israelwill be justified and find glory through the Lord.

The Holy One of Israel is our Redeemer;Yahweh of Hosts is His name.

“Listen to this, house of Jacob—those who are called by the name Israeland have descended from Judah,who swear by the name of Yahwehand declare the God of Israel,but not in truth or righteousness.

All of you, assemble and listen!Who among the idols has declared these things?The Lord loves him;he will accomplish His will against Babylon,and His arm will be against the Chaldeans.

Approach Me and listen to this.From the beginning I have not spoken in secret;from the time anything existed, I was there.”And now the Lord Godhas sent me and His Spirit.

This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:I am Yahweh your God,who teaches you for your benefit,who leads you in the way you should go.

Leave Babylon,flee from the Chaldeans!Declare with a shout of joy,proclaim this,let it go out to the end of the earth;announce,“The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob!”

Coastlands, listen to me;distant peoples, pay attention.The Lord called me before I was born.He named me while I was in my mother’s womb.

But I myself said: I have labored in vain,I have spent my strength for nothing and futility;yet my vindication is with the Lord,and my reward is with my God.

And now, says the Lord,who formed me from the womb to be His Servant,to bring Jacob back to Himso that Israel might be gathered to Him;for I am honored in the sight of the Lord,and my God is my strength—

This is what the Lord,the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, saysto one who is despised,to one abhorred by people,to a servant of rulers:“Kings will see and stand up,and princes will bow down,because of the Lord, who is faithful,the Holy One of Israel—and He has chosen you.”

This is what the Lord says:I will answer you in a time of favor,and I will help you in the day of salvation.I will keep you, and I will appoint youto be a covenant for the people,to restore the land,to make them possess the desolate inheritances,

Shout for joy, you heavens!Earth, rejoice!Mountains break into joyful shouts!For the Lord has comforted His people,and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.

This is what the Lord God says:Look, I will lift up My hand to the nations,and raise My banner to the peoples.They will bring your sons in their arms,and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.

Kings will be your foster fathers,and their queens your nursing mothers.They will bow down to youwith their faces to the ground,and lick the dust at your feet.Then you will know that I am Yahweh;those who put their hope in Mewill not be put to shame.

For this is what the Lord says:“Even the captives of a mighty man will be taken,and the prey of a tyrant will be delivered;I will contend with the one who contends with you,and I will save your children.

I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh,and they will be drunk with their own bloodas with sweet wine.Then all flesh will knowthat I, Yahweh, am your Savior,and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

This is what the Lord says:Where is your mother’s divorce certificatethat I used to send her away?Or who were My creditors that I sold you to?Look, you were sold for your iniquities,and your mother was put awaybecause of your transgressions.

The Lord God has opened My ear,and I was not rebellious;I did not turn back.

The Lord God will help Me;therefore I have not been humiliated;therefore I have set My face like flint,and I know I will not be put to shame.

In truth, the Lord God will help Me;who will condemn Me?Indeed, all of them will wear out like a garment;a moth will devour them.

Who among you fears the Lord,listening to the voice of His Servant?Who among you walks in darkness,and has no light?Let him trust in the name of Yahweh;let him lean on his God.

Listen to Me, you who pursue righteousness,you who seek the Lord:Look to the rock from which you were cut,and to the quarry from which you were dug.

For the Lord will comfort Zion;He will comfort all her waste places,and He will make her wilderness like Eden,and her desert like the garden of the Lord.Joy and gladness will be found in her,thanksgiving and melodious song.

But you have forgotten the Lord, your Maker,who stretched out the heavensand laid the foundations of the earth.You are in constant dread all day longbecause of the fury of the oppressor,who has set himself to destroy.But where is the fury of the oppressor?

For I am Yahweh your Godwho stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—His name is Yahweh of Hosts.

Wake yourself, wake yourself up!Stand up, Jerusalem,you who have drunk the cup of His furyfrom the hand of the Lord;you who have drunk the goblet to the dregs—the cup that causes people to stagger.

This is what your Lord says—Yahweh, even your God,who defends His people—“Look, I have removedthe cup of staggering from your hand;that goblet, the cup of My fury.You will never drink it again.

For this is what the Lord says:“You were sold for nothing,and you will be redeemed without silver.”

For this is what the Lord God says:“At first My people went down to Egypt to live there,then Assyria oppressed them without cause.

The voices of your watchmen—they lift up their voices,shouting for joy together;for every eye will seewhen the Lord returns to Zion.

Be joyful, rejoice together,you ruins of Jerusalem!For the Lord has comforted His people;He has redeemed Jerusalem.

For you will not leave in a hurry,and you will not have to take flight;because the Lord is going before you,and the God of Israel is your rear guard.

Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely.When You make Him a restitution offering,He will see His seed, He will prolong His days,and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.

“Rejoice, childless one, who did not give birth;burst into song and shout,you who have not been in labor!For the children of the forsaken one will be morethan the children of the married woman,”says the Lord.

For the Lord has called you,like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit,a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,”says your God.

In a surge of angerI hid My face from you for a moment,but I will have compassion on youwith everlasting love,”says the Lord your Redeemer.

so you will summon a nation you do not know,and nations who do not know you will run to you.For the Lord your God,even the Holy One of Israel,has glorified you.”

Instead of the thornbush, a cypress will come up,and instead of the brier, a myrtle will come up;it will make a name for Yahwehas an everlasting sign that will not be destroyed.

This is what the Lord says:Preserve justice and do what is right,for My salvation is coming soon,and My righteousness will be revealed.

No foreigner who has joined himself to the Lordshould say,“The Lord will exclude me from His people”;and the eunuch should not say,“Look, I am a dried-up tree.”

For the Lord says this:“For the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths,and choose what pleases Me,and hold firmly to My covenant,

And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lordminister to Him, love the name of Yahwehand become His servants,all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating itand who hold firmly to My covenant—

This is the declaration of the Lord God,who gathers the dispersed of Israel:“I will gather to them still othersbesides those already gathered.”

Will the fast I choose be like this:A day for a person to deny himself,to bow his head like a reed,and to spread out sackcloth and ashes?Will you call this a fastand a day acceptable to the Lord?

At that time, when you call, the Lord will answer;when you cry out, He will say, ‘Here I am.’If you get rid of the yoke among you,the finger-pointing and malicious speaking,

“If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath,from doing whatever you want on My holy day;if you call the Sabbath a delight,and the holy day of the Lord honorable;if you honor it, not going your own ways,seeking your own pleasure, or talking too much;

then you will delight yourself in the Lord,and I will make you ride over the heights of the land,and let you enjoy the heritage of your father Jacob.”For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

transgression and deception against the Lord,turning away from following our God,speaking oppression and revolt,conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart.

Truth is missing,and whoever turns from evil is plundered.The Lord saw that there was no justice,and He was offended.

They will fear the name of Yahweh in the westand His glory in the east;for He will come like a rushing streamdriven by the wind of the Lord.

“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit who is on you, and My words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouth of your children, or from the mouth of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the Lord.

For look, darkness covers the earth,and total darkness the peoples;but the Lord will shine over you,and His glory will appear over you.

Caravans of camels will cover your land—young camels of Midian and Ephah—all of them will come from Sheba.They will carry gold and frankincenseand proclaim the praises of the Lord.

Yes, the islands will wait for Mewith the ships of Tarshish in the lead,to bring your children from far away,their silver and gold with them,for the honor of the Lord your God,the Holy One of Israel,who has glorified you.

The sons of your oppressorswill come and bow down to you;all who reviled youwill fall facedown at your feet.They will call you the City of the Lord,Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

You will nurse on the milk of nations,and nurse at the breast of kings;you will know that I, Yahweh, am your Saviorand Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

The sun will no longer be your light by day,and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you;but the Lord will be your everlasting light,and your God will be your splendor.

Your sun will no longer set,and your moon will not fade;for the Lord will be your everlasting light,and the days of your sorrow will be over.

The least will become a thousand,the smallest a mighty nation.I am Yahweh;I will accomplish it quickly in its time.

For I Yahweh love justice;I hate robbery and injustice;I will faithfully reward themand make an everlasting covenant with them.

Their descendants will be known among the nations,and their posterity among the peoples.All who see them will recognizethat they are a people the Lord has blessed.
