'Money' in the Bible
He told them, "Stop collecting more money than the amount you are told to collect."
Some soldiers also questioned him: “What should we do?”He said to them, “Don’t take money from anyone by force or false accusation; be satisfied with your wages.”
If you lend [money] to those from whom you expect to receive [it back], what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners expecting to receive back the same amount.
But be loving to those who are against you and do them good, and give them your money, not giving up hope, and your reward will be great and you will be the sons of the Most High: for he is kind to evil men, and to those who have hard hearts.
“A certain moneylender had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
And a woman, who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had given all her money to medical men, and not one of them was able to make her well,
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
Take no bag for money or for food, and no shoes; say no word to any man on the way.
And the day after he took two pennies and gave them to the owner of the house and said, Take care of him; and if this money is not enough, when I come again I will give you whatever more is needed.
"Sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor. Make yourselves wallets that don't wear out a dependable treasure in heaven, where no thief can get close and no moth can destroy anything.
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. He will first sit down and estimate the cost to see whether he has enough money to finish it, won't he?
And not long after, the younger son got together everything which was his and took a journey into a far-away country, and there all his money went in foolish living.
But this son of yours spent your money on prostitutes, and when he came back, you killed the fattened calf for him!'
And the servant said to himself, What am I to do now that my lord takes away my position? I have not enough strength for working in the fields, and I would be shamed if I made requests for money from people in the streets.
And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of the unrighteous money so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings.
So if you have not been faithful with the unrighteous money, who will trust you with what is genuine?
No household slave can be the slave of two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t be slaves to both God and money.”
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and scoffing at Him.
When Jesus heard this, he told him, "You still need to do one thing. Sell everything you have and give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me."
It is simpler for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a man who has much money to come into the kingdom of God.
And it came about that when he got near Jericho, a certain blind man was seated by the side of the road, making requests for money from those who went by.
Zacchaeus however stood up, and addressing the Lord said, "Here and now, Master, I give half my property to the poor, and if I have unjustly exacted money from any man, I pledge myself to repay to him four times the amount."
He called ten of his servants and gave them ten coins. He told them, "Invest this money until I come back.'
And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
And looking up, he saw the men of wealth putting their offerings in the money-box.
And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
And he said to them, When I sent you out without money or bag or shoes, were you in need of anything? And they said, Nothing.
And he said to them, But now, he who has a money-bag, or a bag for food, let him take it: and he who has not, let him give his coat for money and get a sword.
