You who were full of noise,You boisterous town, you exultant city;Your slain were not slain with the sword,Nor did they die in battle.

And you made a reservoir between the two wallsFor the waters of the old pool.But you did not depend on Him who made it,Nor did you take into consideration Him who planned it long ago.

There is none to guide her among all the sons she has borne,Nor is there one to take her by the hand among all the sons she has reared.

But you will not go out in haste,Nor will you go as fugitives;For the Lord will go before you,And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,And like a root out of parched ground;He has no stately form or majestyThat we should look upon Him,Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”

“Violence will not be heard again in your land,Nor devastation or destruction within your borders;But you will call your walls salvation, and your gates praise.

It will no longer be said to you, “Forsaken,”Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “Desolate”;But you will be called, “My delight is in her,”And your land, “Married”;For the Lord delights in you,And to Him your land will be married.

The Lord has sworn by His right hand and by His strong arm,“I will never again give your grain as food for your enemies;Nor will foreigners drink your new wine for which you have labored.”

For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear,Nor has the eye seen a God besides You,Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.

I will set a sign among them and will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, Put, Lud, Meshech, Tubal and Javan, to the distant coastlands that have neither heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they will declare My glory among the nations.
