'One' in the Bible

One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which means “Anointed One”),

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law (and so did the prophets): Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth!”

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and says of him, Behold one truly an Israelite, in whom there is no guile.

Now standing there were six stone water jars used for the Jewish rites of purification, each one holding from two to three measures.

Then He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter [of the banquet].” So they took it to him.

and because he needed not that any one should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

Now there was among the Pharisees a man named Nicodemus, who was one of the rulers of the Jews.

This man came to Him at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher, for no one could perform these signs You do unless God were with him.”

So they came to John and told him, “Rabbi, the One you testified about, and who was with you across the Jordan, is baptizing—and everyone is flocking to Him.”

John responded, “No one can receive a single thing unless it’s given to him from heaven.

You yourselves are my witnesses that I stated, ‘I am not the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed),’ but, ‘I have [only] been sent ahead of Him [as His appointed forerunner and messenger to announce and proclaim His coming].’

The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth is earthly and speaks in earthly terms. The One who comes from heaven is above all.

The one who has accepted His testimony has affirmed that God is true.

Jesus answered and said to her, 'Every one who is drinking of this water shall thirst again;

for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.

The woman told him, "I know that the Anointed One is coming, who is being called "the Messiah'. When that person comes, he will explain everything."

Just then His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, “What do You want?” or “Why are You talking with her?”

The one who harvests is already receiving his wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who harvests may rejoice together.

So he asked them at what hour he had begun to recover, and they told him, "The fever left him yesterday at one o'clock in the afternoon."

because an angel would go down into the pool from time to time and stir up the water. Then the first one who got in after the water was stirred up recovered from whatever ailment he had].

Jesus, [when he] saw this one lying [there] and knew that he had [been sick] a long time already, said to him, "Do you want to become well?"

The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I am trying to get into the water, someone else goes down there before me."

So the Jews were saying to the one who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath, and it is not permitted for you to pick up the mat!"

He answered them, 'He who made me whole -- that one said to me, Take up thy couch, and be walking;'

But the one who had been healed did not know who it was, because Jesus had slipped away from the crowd in that place.

The man went away and informed the Jewish leaders that Jesus was the one who had made him well.

So Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing from himself except what he sees the Father doing. For whatever that one does, these [things] also the Son does likewise.

so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

That one was the lamp [which was] burning and shining, and you wanted to rejoice for an hour in his light.

And the Father who sent Me has Himself testified about Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen His form [His majesty and greatness—what He is like].

Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,

Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus performed, they began to say to one another, "This is certainly the Prophet who is to come into the world."

The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;

and they said, 'Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then saith this one -- Out of the heaven I have come down?'

Jesus answered, therefore, and said to them, 'Murmur not one with another;

it is having been written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God; every one therefore who heard from the Father, and learned, cometh to me;

this is the bread that out of the heaven is coming down, that any one may eat of it, and not die.

I am the living bread that came down out of the heaven; if any one may eat of this bread he shall live -- to the age; and the bread also that I will give is my flesh, that I will give for the life of the world.'

The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, 'How is this one able to give us his flesh to eat?'

This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the manna your fathers ate—and they died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.”

But there are some among you who don’t believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning those who would not believe and the one who would betray Him.)

He said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted to him by the Father.”

He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

For no one does anything in secret while he’s seeking public recognition. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”

the Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, 'Where is that one?'

and the Jews were wondering, saying, 'How hath this one known letters -- not having learned?'
