But now take courage, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord, ‘take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ declares the Lord of hosts.

Then Haggai said, “‘So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.

“Many nations will join themselves to the Lord in that day and will become My people. Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.

“Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?

Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If it is too difficult in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, will it also be too difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of hosts.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west;

and I will bring them back and they will live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth and righteousness.’

But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days,’ declares the Lord of hosts.

‘For there will be peace for the seed: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

And the Lord their God will save them in that dayAs the flock of His people;For they are as the stones of a crown,Sparkling in His land.

For the teraphim speak iniquity,And the diviners see lying visionsAnd tell false dreams;They comfort in vain.Therefore the people wander like sheep,They are afflicted, because there is no shepherd.

“And I will bring the third part through the fire,Refine them as silver is refined,And test them as gold is tested.They will call on My name,And I will answer them;I will say, ‘They are My people,’And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.

People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.

Though Edom says, “We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins”; thus says the Lord of hosts, “They may build, but I will tear down; and men will call them the wicked territory, and the people toward whom the Lord is indignant forever.”

“So I also have made you despised and abased before all the people, just as you are not keeping My ways but are showing partiality in the instruction.

Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.

‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah;For out of you shall come forth a RulerWho will shepherd My people Israel.’”

For the heart of this people has become dull,With their ears they scarcely hear,And they have closed their eyes,Otherwise they would see with their eyes,Hear with their ears,And understand with their heart and return,And I would heal them.’

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas;

But they were saying, “Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people.”

While He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;

Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.

And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”

They *came to the house of the synagogue official; and He *saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.

And King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

And He *said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

The people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.

When they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,

And He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:‘This people honors Me with their lips,But their heart is far away from Me.

Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?”

And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums.

for they were saying, “Not during the festival, otherwise there might be a riot of the people.”

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;

Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,

So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people.

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,

And Levi gave a big reception for Him in his house; and there was a great crowd of tax collectors and other people who were reclining at the table with them.

Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; and there was a large crowd of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon,

When He had completed all His discourse in the hearing of the people, He went to Capernaum.

Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”

At that very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits; and He gave sight to many who were blind.

When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they acknowledged God’s justice, having been baptized with the baptism of John.

The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.

And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.

When the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed.

But He said to them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.”

Woe to you! For you are like concealed tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it.”

The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, glorifying God; and when all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.

And He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him,

and they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said.

On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him,

But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

And He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time.

And they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and being amazed at His answer, they became silent.

And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,

Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people;

And all the people would get up early in the morning to come to Him in the temple to listen to Him.

The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying,

But they kept on insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee even as far as this place.”

Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.

And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him.

And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.”

And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,

Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?

Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them.

I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.”

nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”
