'Words' in the Bible

Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

We said our last words to one another, and got into the ship, and they went back to their houses.

And he came to us, and took the band of Paul's clothing, and putting it round his feet and hands, said, The Holy Spirit says these words, So will the Jews do to the man who is the owner of this band, and they will give him up into the hands of the Gentiles.

As soon as we heard these words, both we and the brethren at Caesarea entreated Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.

Now those who were with me saw the light, but did not understand the voice of the One who was speaking to me.

And he said, You have been marked out by the God of our fathers to have knowledge of his purpose, and to see the Upright One and to give ear to the words of his mouth.

And those who were near said, Do you say such words against God's high priest

These words of his caused an angry dispute between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly took different sides.

And he sent a letter in these words:

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

And when he made his answer in these words, Festus said in a loud voice, Paul, you are off your head; your great learning has made you unbalanced.

But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.

King Agrippa, do you believe the [writings of the] Prophets [their messages and words]? I know that you do.”

Having said this, he took bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all, and he broke it and began to eat.

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

Absolutely not! God must be true, even if everyone is a liar, as it is written:That You may be justified in Your wordsand triumph when You judge.

Under utterly hopeless circumstances he hopefully believed, so that he might become the forefather of many nations, in agreement with the words "Equally numerous shall your posterity be."

Now the words "it was credited to him" were written not only for him

I am using words in the way of men, because your flesh is feeble: as you gave your bodies as servants to what is unclean, and to evil to do evil, so now give them as servants to righteousness to do what is holy.

In other words, it is not the children by natural descent who count as God's children, but the children made such by the promise are regarded as Abraham's posterity.

For the words are the language of promise and run thus, "About this time next year I will come, and Sarah shall have a son."

No, indeed; the solution is found in His words to Moses, "Wherever I show mercy it shall be nothing but mercy, and wherever I show compassion it shall be simply compassion."

But the righteousness which is of faith says these words, Say not in your heart, Who will go up to heaven? (that is, to make Christ come down:)

But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

God has not put away the people of his selection. Or have you no knowledge of what is said about Elijah in the holy Writings? how he says words to God against Israel,

Therefore do not let what is a good thing for you [because of your freedom to choose] be spoken of as evil [by someone else];

For Christ did not give pleasure to himself, but, as it is said, The bitter words of those who were angry with you came on me.

For I am bold enough to tell you only about what the Messiah has accomplished through me in bringing gentiles to obedience. By my words and actions,

And when I came to you, brothers and sisters, proclaiming to you the testimony of God [concerning salvation through Christ], I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom [no lofty words of eloquence or of philosophy as a Greek orator might do];

Yet when we are among mature believers we do speak words of wisdom; a wisdom not belonging, however, to the present age nor to the leaders of the present age who are soon to pass away.

In writing this much, brethren, with special reference to Apollos and myself, I have done so for your sakes, in order to teach you by our example what those words mean, which say, "Nothing beyond what is written!" --so that you may cease to take sides in boastful rivalry, for one teacher against another.

But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant but their power.

So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

Otherwise, if you bless God in spirit only, how shall he who is in the position of an ungifted man say the 'Amen' to your giving of thanks, when he does not know what your words mean?

Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

In the law it is said, By men of other tongues and by strange lips will my words come to this people; and not even so will they give ear to me, says the Lord.

But if there is no one to give the sense, let him keep quiet in the church; and let his words be to himself and to God.

through which also ye are being saved, in what words I proclaimed good news to you, if ye hold fast, except ye did believe in vain,

But when this perishable nature has put on what is imperishable, and this mortality has put on immortality, then will the words of Scripture be fulfilled, "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

For he is the Yes to all the undertakings of God: and by him all the words of God are made certain and put into effect, to the glory of God through us.

But having the same spirit of faith, as it is said in the Writings, The words of my mouth came from the faith in my heart; in the same way, our words are the outcome of our faith;

Such a person should consider this: What we are in the words of our letters when absent, we will be in actions when present.

How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

But when I saw that they were not living uprightly in agreement with the true words of the good news, I said to Cephas before them all, If you, being a Jew, are living like the Gentiles, and not like the Jews, how will you make the Gentiles do the same as the Jews?

Is the law then against the words of God? in no way; because if there had been a law which was able to give life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.

How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

You masters, do the same [showing goodwill] toward them, and give up threatening and abusive words, knowing that [He who is] both their true Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with Him [regardless of one’s earthly status].

Pray also for me, so that, when I begin to speak, the right words will come to me. Then I will boldly make known the secret of the gospel,

Give words of love to every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you their love.

These words of love to you at the end are in my writing, Paul's writing, and this is the mark of every letter from me.

wanting to be teachers of the Law [of Moses], even though they do not understand the terms they use or the subjects about which they make [such] confident declarations.

This order I give to you, Timothy my son, in harmony with the words of the prophets about you, so that by them you may be strong, fighting the good fight,

Such are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have given up to Satan, so that they may say no more evil words against God.

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
