'Year' in the Bible

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the message was true and it referred to great conflict (warfare, misery). And he understood the message and had an understanding of the vision.

“Also I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I (Gabriel) arose to be an encouragement and a protection for him.

With what shall I come before the Lord [to honor Him]And bow myself before God on high?Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,With yearling calves?

In the second year of Darius the king [of Persia], on the first day of the sixth month (Aug 29, 520 b.c.), the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

But one of them, Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year [the year of Christ’s crucifixion], said to them, “You know nothing at all!

Now he did not say this [simply] on his own initiative; but being the high priest that year, he [was unknowingly used by God and] prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,

and led Him to Annas first; for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

But when he reached the age of forty, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the sons of Israel.

So he settled there for a year and six months, teaching them the word of God [concerning eternal salvation through faith in Christ].

For this is what the promise said: “About this time [next year] I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.”

I give you my opinion in this matter: this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin a year ago not only to take action [to help the believers in Jerusalem], but also [the first] to desire to do it.

For since the Law has only a shadow [just a pale representation] of the good things to come—not the very image of those things—it can never, by offering the same sacrifices continually year after year, make perfect those who approach [its altars].

So the four angels, who had been prepared for the [appointed] hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.
