'Called' in the Bible
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
By the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool, called Bethesda in Hebrew, which has five colonnades.
He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So when I went and washed I received my sight.”
If He called those whom the word of God came to ‘gods’—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
Then Thomas (called “Twin”) said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go so that we may die with Him.”
Having said this, she went back and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.”
Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews but departed from there to the countryside near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim. And He stayed there with the disciples.
Meanwhile, the crowd, which had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify.
I do not call you slaves anymore, because a slave doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from My Father.
When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside. He sat down on the judge’s bench in a place called the Stone Pavement (but in Hebrew Gabbatha).
Carrying His own cross, He went out to what is called Skull Place, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
But one of the Twelve, Thomas (called “Twin”), was not with them when Jesus came.
Simon Peter, Thomas (called “Twin”), Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, Zebedee’s sons, and two others of His disciples were together.
“Men,” Jesus called to them, “you don’t have any fish, do you?”“No,” they answered.
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem—a Sabbath day’s journey away.
This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama (that is, Field of Blood).
So they proposed two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.
And a man who was lame from birth was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex.
While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people, greatly amazed, ran toward them in what is called Solomon’s Colonnade.
So they called for them and ordered them not to preach or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.
Then some from what is called the Freedmen’s Synagogue, composed of both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, came forward and disputed with Stephen.
They were stoning Stephen as he called out: “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”
They all paid attention to him, from the least of them to the greatest, and they said, “This man is called the Great Power of God!”
“Get up and go to the street called Straight,” the Lord said to him, “to the house of Judas, and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, since he is praying there.
But all who heard him were astounded and said, “Isn’t this the man who, in Jerusalem, was destroying those who called on this name and then came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests?”
He gave her his hand and helped her stand up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her alive.
There was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment.
When the angel who spoke to him had gone, he called two of his household slaves and a devout soldier, who was one of those who attended him.
They called out, asking if Simon, who was also named Peter, was lodging there.
The following day he entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers. The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
In the church that was at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen, a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
As they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work I have called them to.”
Then Saul—also called Paul—filled with the Holy Spirit, stared straight at the sorcerer
they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian towns called Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding countryside.
so the rest of humanitymay seek the Lord—even all the Gentileswho are called by My name,declares the Lord who does these things,
Then the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, decided to select men who were among them and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: Judas, called Barsabbas, and Silas, both leading men among the brothers.
After he had seen the vision, we immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to evangelize them.
But Paul called out in a loud voice, “Don’t harm yourself, because all of us are here!”
Then the jailer called for lights, rushed in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.
Now from Miletus, he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church.
Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander, because he has something to report to him.”
So he took him, brought him to the commander, and said, “The prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, because he has something to tell you.”
When he was called in, Tertullus began to accuse him and said: “Since we enjoy great peace because of you, and reforms are taking place for the benefit of this nation by your foresight,
With yet more difficulty we sailed along the coast and came to a place called Fair Havens near the city of Lasea.
But not long afterward, a fierce wind called the “northeaster” rushed down from the island.
After running under the shelter of a little island called Cauda, we were barely able to get control of the skiff.

Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and singled out for God’s good news—
To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
So then, if she gives herself to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law. Then, if she gives herself to another man, she is not an adulteress.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.
Neither are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants. On the contrary, your offspring will be traced through Isaac.
on us, the ones He also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?
And it will be in the place where they were told,you are not My people,there they will be called sons of the living God.
Paul, called as an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will, and Sosthenes our brother:
To God’s church at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus and called as saints, with all those in every place who call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord—both their Lord and ours.
God is faithful; you were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom,
But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace.
However, each one must live his life in the situation the Lord assigned when God called him. This is what I command in all the churches.
Was anyone already circumcised when he was called? He should not undo his circumcision. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised.
Each person should remain in the life situation in which he was called.
Were you called while a slave? It should not be a concern to you. But if you can become free, by all means take the opportunity.
For he who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ’s slave.
Brothers, each person should remain with God in whatever situation he was called.
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth—as there are many “gods” and many “lords”—
For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from Him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—
But when God, who from my birth set me apart and called me by His grace, was pleased
This persuasion did not come from the One who called you.
For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.
So then, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh—called “the uncircumcised” by those called “the circumcised,” which is done in the flesh by human hands.
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope at your calling—
And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful.
and so does Jesus who is called Justus. These alone of the circumcision are my coworkers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me.
For God has not called us to impurity but to sanctification.
He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits in God’s sanctuary, publicizing that he himself is God.
He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Fight the good fight for the faith;take hold of eternal lifethat you were called toand have made a good confession aboutin the presence of many witnesses.
He has saved us and called uswith a holy calling,not according to our works,but according to His own purpose and grace,which was given to us in Christ Jesusbefore time began.
But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.
No one takes this honor on himself; instead, a person is called by God, just as Aaron was.
For a tabernacle was set up, and in the first room, which is called the holy place, were the lampstand, the table, and the presentation loaves.
Behind the second curtain, the tabernacle was called the most holy place.
Therefore, He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance, because a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

the one it had been said about, Your seed will be traced through Isaac.
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter
So the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.
But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct;
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood,a holy nation, a people for His possession,so that you may proclaim the praisesof the One who called you out of darknessinto His marvelous light.
For you were called to this,because Christ also suffered for you,leaving you an example,so that you should follow in His steps.
not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.
Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.
His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
