'Dead' in the Bible
When they say to you, “Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?
“Sheol from beneath is excited over you to meet you when you come;It arouses for you the spirits of the dead, all the leaders of the earth;It raises all the kings of the nations from their thrones.
“Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them;And I will confound their strategy,So that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the deadAnd to mediums and spiritists.
The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise;Therefore You have punished and destroyed them,And You have wiped out all remembrance of them.
Your dead will live;Their corpses will rise.You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy,For your dew is as the dew of the dawn,And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.
Then the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, all of these were dead.
We grope along the wall like blind men,We grope like those who have no eyes;We stumble at midday as in the twilight,Among those who are vigorous we are like dead men.
