'Heavens' in the Bible

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

So the heavens and the earth and everything in them were completed.

These are the records of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation at the time that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

by the God of your father who helps you,and by the Almighty who blesses youwith blessings of the heavens above,blessings of the deep that lies below,and blessings of the breasts and the womb.

Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth.

For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.

It is a sign forever between Me and the Israelites, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

Where can we go? Our brothers have discouraged us, saying: The people are larger and taller than we are; the cities are large, fortified to the heavens. We also saw the descendants of the Anakim there.’

You came near and stood at the base of the mountain, a mountain blazing with fire into the heavens and enveloped in a dense, black cloud.

When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars—all the array of heaven—do not be led astray to bow down and worship them. The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.

so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your fathers.

Pay attention, heavens, and I will speak;listen, earth, to the words of my mouth.

There is none like the God of Jeshurun,who rides the heavens to your aid,the clouds in His majesty.

For all the gods of the peoples are idols,but the Lord made the heavens.

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice,and let them say among the nations, “The Lord is King!”

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to You. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all.

Hiram also said:May the Lord God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, be praised! He gave King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the Lord and a royal palace for himself.

And I said:My God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face toward You, my God, because our iniquities are higher than our heads and our guilt is as high as the heavens.

You alone are Yahweh.You created the heavens,the highest heavens with all their host,the earth and all that is on it,the seas and all that is in them.You give life to all of them,and the heavenly host worships You.

He alone stretches out the heavensand treads on the waves of the sea.

They are higher than the heavens—what can you do?They are deeper than Sheol—what can you know?

so man lies down never to rise again.They will not wake up until the heavens are no more;they will not stir from their sleep.

If God puts no trust in His holy onesand the heavens are not pure in His sight,

The heavens will expose his iniquity,and the earth will rise up against him.

Isn’t God as high as the heavens?And look at the highest stars—how lofty they are!

Dominion and dread belong to Him,the One who establishes harmony in the heavens.

By His breath the heavens gained their beauty;His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.

For He looks to the ends of the earthand sees everything under the heavens.

Look at the heavens and see;gaze at the clouds high above you.

When I observe Your heavens,the work of Your fingers,the moon and the stars,which You set in place,

He parted the heavens and came down,a dark cloud beneath His feet.

Their message has gone out to all the earth,and their words to the ends of the world.In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.

It rises from one end of the heavensand circles to their other end;nothing is hidden from its heat.

The heavens were made by the word of the Lord,and all the stars, by the breath of His mouth.

The heavens proclaim His righteousness,for God is the Judge.Selah

God, be exalted above the heavens;let Your glory be over the whole earth.

For Your faithful love is as high as the heavens;Your faithfulness reaches the clouds.

to Him who rides in the ancient, highest heavens.Look, He thunders with His powerful voice!

For I will declare,“Faithful love is built up forever;You establish Your faithfulness in the heavens.”

Lord, the heavens praise Your wonders—Your faithfulness also—in the assembly of the holy ones.

The heavens are Yours; the earth also is Yours.The world and everything in it—You founded them.

Long ago You established the earth,and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

Yahweh is exalted above all the nations,His glory above the heavens.

who stoops down to lookon the heavens and the earth?

The heavens are the Lord’s,but the earth He has given to the human race.

He made the heavens skillfully.        His love is eternal.

Lord, part Your heavens and come down.Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.

Hallelujah!Praise the Lord from the heavens;praise Him in the heights.

Praise Him, highest heavens,and you waters above the heavens.

Hallelujah!Praise God in His sanctuary.Praise Him in His mighty heavens.

The Lord founded the earth by wisdomand established the heavens by understanding.

I was there when He established the heavens,when He laid out the horizon on the surface of the ocean,

Listen, heavens, and pay attention, earth,for the Lord has spoken:“I have raised children and brought them up,but they have rebelled against Me.

Therefore I will make the heavens tremble,and the earth will shake from its foundationsat the wrath of the Lord of Hosts,on the day of His burning anger.

Shining morning star,how you have fallen from the heavens!You destroyer of nations,you have been cut down to the ground.

You said to yourself:“I will ascend to the heavens;I will set up my throneabove the stars of God.I will sit on the mount of the gods’ assembly,in the remotest parts of the North.

When My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens,it will then come down on Edomand on the people I have set apart for destruction.

Lord of Hosts, God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are God—You alone—of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his handor marked off the heavens with the span of his hand?Who has gathered the dust of the earth in a measureor weighed the mountains in a balanceand the hills in the scales?

God is enthroned above the circle of the earth;its inhabitants are like grasshoppers.He stretches out the heavens like thin clothand spreads them out like a tent to live in.

This is what God, Yahweh, says—who created the heavens and stretched them out,who spread out the earth and what comes from it,who gives breath to the people on itand life to those who walk on it—

Rejoice, heavens, for the Lord has acted;shout, depths of the earth.Break out into singing, mountains,forest, and every tree in it.For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,and glorifies Himself through Israel.

This is what the Lord, your Redeemer who formed you from the womb, says:I am Yahweh, who made everything;who stretched out the heavens by Myself;who alone spread out the earth;

“Heavens, sprinkle from above,and let the skies shower righteousness.Let the earth open upso that salvation will sproutand righteousness will spring up with it.I, Yahweh, have created it.

I made the earth,and created man on it.It was My hands that stretched out the heavens,and I commanded all their host.

For this is what the Lord says—God is the Creator of the heavens.He formed the earth and made it.He established it;He did not create it to be empty,but formed it to be inhabited—“I am Yahweh,and there is no other.

My own hand founded the earth,and My right hand spread out the heavens;when I summoned them,they stood up together.

Shout for joy, you heavens!Earth, rejoice!Mountains break into joyful shouts!For the Lord has comforted His people,and will have compassion on His afflicted ones.

I dress the heavens in blackand make sackcloth their clothing.

Look up to the heavens,and look at the earth beneath;for the heavens will vanish like smoke,the earth will wear out like a garment,and its inhabitants will die like gnats.But My salvation will last forever,and My righteousness will never be shattered.

But you have forgotten the Lord, your Maker,who stretched out the heavensand laid the foundations of the earth.You are in constant dread all day longbecause of the fury of the oppressor,who has set himself to destroy.But where is the fury of the oppressor?

I have put My words in your mouth,and covered you in the shadow of My hand,in order to plant the heavens,to found the earth,and to say to Zion, “You are My people.”

If only You would tear the heavens openand come down,so that mountains would quake at Your presence—

“For just as the new heavens and the new earth,which I will make,will endure before Me”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“so your offspring and your name will endure.

Be horrified at this, heavens;be shocked and utterly appalled.This is the Lord’s declaration.

I looked at the earth,and it was formless and empty.I looked to the heavens,and their light was gone.

This is what the Lord says:Do not learn the way of the nationsor be terrified by signs in the heavens,although the nations are terrified by them,

You are to say this to them, “The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”

He made the earth by His power,established the world by His wisdom,and spread out the heavens by His understanding.

When He thunders,the waters in the heavens are in turmoil,and He causes the clouds to risefrom the ends of the earth.He makes lightning for the rainand brings the wind from His storehouses.

Can a man hide himself in secret places where I cannot see him?”—the Lord’s declaration. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?”—the Lord’s declaration.
