'Midwife' in the Bible

When her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for you are having another son."

While she was giving birth, one child put out his hand, and the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his hand, saying, "This one came out first."

The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women -- for the Hebrew women are vigorous; they give birth before the midwife gets to them!"
