'Ruling' in the Bible
“The God of Israel,The Rock of Israel spoke to me,‘He who rules over men righteously,Who rules in the fear of God,
King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and, being a leper, he lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. And his son Jotham took charge of the king’s household, judging and governing the people of the land.
Thus says the Lord,‘Write this man [Coniah] down as childless,A man who will not prosper (succeed) in his lifetime; For not one of his descendants will succeedIn sitting on the throne of DavidOr ruling again in Judah.’”
‘And the fire [of Zedekiah’s rebellion] has gone out from its branch; It has consumed the vine’s shoots and fruit,So that it has in it no [longer a] strong branchAs a scepter to rule.’”This is a dirge (funeral poem to be sung), and has become a dirge.
