'Shoots' in the Bible
“He thrives and prospers [like a green plant] before the sun,And his branches spread out over his garden.
“For there is hope for a tree,If it is cut down, that it will sprout again,And that the shoots of it will not cease nor fail, [but there is no such hope for man].
“Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates,[A paradise] with precious fruits, henna with fragrant plants,
For the fields of Heshbon have languished and withered, and the vines of Sibmah as well; The lords of the nations have trampled down [Moab’s] choice vine branches,Which reached as far as Jazer and wandered into the wilderness; Its tendrils stretched out, they passed over [the shores of] the [Dead] Sea.
In the generations to come Jacob will take root;Israel will blossom and sprout,And they will fill the surface of the world with fruit.
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,And as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,So the Lord God will [most certainly] cause righteousness and justice and praiseTo spring up before all the nations [through the power of His word].
“Yet I had planted you [O house of Israel as] a choice vine,A completely faithful seed. How then have you turned against MeInto degenerate shoots of a foreign and wild vine [alien to Me]?
His shoots will sprout,And his beauty will be like the olive treeAnd his fragrance like the cedars of Lebanon.
