1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

1 When David was old and full of days, he installed his son Solomon as king over Israel.

1 After David had reached old age, and had completed his reign, he set his son Solomon as king over Israel.

1 When David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel with the priests and the Levites.

2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

2 Then he gathered all the leaders of Israel, the priests, and the Levites.

2 David then gathered together all of the leaders of Israel, including the priests and descendants of Levi.

2 David assembled all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and Levites.

3 The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward, and their number by census of men was 38,000.

3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 Of these, 24,000 were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and 6,000 were officers and judges,

4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:

4 "Of these," [David said], "24,000 are to be in charge of the work on the Lord's temple, 6,000 are to be officers and judges

4 "24,000 of these," David said, "are to be set in charge of the work of the Temple of the LORD, with 6,000 serving as officers and judges,

4 Of whom 24,000 were to oversee the work of the house of the Lord and 6,000 were to be officers and judges.

5 and 4,000 were gatekeepers, and 4,000 were praising the LORD with the instruments which David made for giving praise.

5 Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

5 4,000 are to be gatekeepers, and 4,000 are to praise the Lord with the instruments that I have made for worship."

5 with 4,000 gatekeepers, and with 4,000 offering praises to the LORD with the musical instruments that I have had crafted."

5 And, said David, 4,000 shall be gatekeepers and 4,000 are to praise the Lord with the instruments which I made for praise.

6 David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

6 And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

6 Then David divided them into divisions according to Levi's sons: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.

6 David divided them into divisions based on Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, Levi's sons.

24 These were the sons of Levi according to their fathers' households, even the heads of the fathers' households of those of them who were counted, in the number of names by their census, doing the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.

24 These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.

24 These were the sons of Levi by their ancestral houses-the heads of families, according to their registration by name in the headcount-20 years old or more, who worked in the service of the Lord's temple.

24 These were the descendants of Levi according to their ancestral households, with family heads documented according to the names of persons 20 years and older who were appointed to perform work in service to the Temple of the LORD.

24 These were the Levites by their fathers' houses, the heads of the fathers' houses of those registered, according to the number of names of the individuals who were the servants of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.

25 For David said, "The LORD God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.

25 For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:

25 For David said, "The Lord God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He has come to stay in Jerusalem forever.

25 For David had said "The LORD God of Israel has granted rest to his people, and he has taken Israel as his eternal residence.

25 For David said, The Lord, the God of Israel has given peace and rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.

26 "Also, the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service."

26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

26 Also, the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the equipment for its service"-

26 Therefore the descendants of Levi are no longer to carry the Tent or its service implements."

26 So the Levites no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.

27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.

27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

27 for according to the last words of David, the Levites 20 years old or more were to be counted-

27 Since, according to David's final instructions, the list above contains the total number of descendants of Levi from the age of 20 years and upward,

27 For by the last words and acts of David, these were the number of the Levites from twenty years old and above.

28 For their office is to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts and in the chambers and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God,

28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

28 "but their duty will be to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the Lord's temple, being responsible for the courts and the chambers, the purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of God's temple-

28 David issued these orders:

28 But their duty should be to wait on [the priests] the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, caring for the courts, the chambers, the cleansing of all holy things, and any work of the service of God's house,

29 and with the showbread, and the fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or what is baked in the pan or what is well-mixed, and all measures of volume and size.

29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

29 as well as the rows [of the bread of the Presence], the fine flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baking, the mixing, and all measurements of volume and length.

29 "Instead, they are to assist by lending a hand to the descendants of Aaron regarding service to the Temple of the LORD relating to the courts, the chambers, purification of everything pertaining to holiness, and to anything else pertaining to service on behalf of the Temple of God, including assisting with the rows of showbread, selecting flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened bread, baked offerings, and oil-based offerings, no matter what the quantity or sizes.

29 For the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a cereal offering, whether of unleavened wafers or of what is baked on the griddle or soaked [in oil], and for all measuring of amount and size [as the Law of Moses required].

30 They are to stand every morning to thank and to praise the LORD, and likewise at evening,

30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;

30 They are also to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the Lord, and likewise in the evening.

30 They are to take their stand morning by morning, thanking and praising the LORD right through until the evening,

30 They are also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening,

31 and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD, on the sabbaths, the new moons and the fixed festivals in the number set by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD.

31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:

31 Whenever burnt offerings are offered to the Lord on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed festivals, they are to do so regularly in the Lord's presence according to the number prescribed for them.

31 whenever burnt offerings are presented to the LORD, whether on Sabbaths, New Moons, or scheduled festivals, regularly in the LORD's presence in accordance with the number required to conduct their service.

31 And to assist in offering all burnt sacrifices to the Lord on Sabbaths, New Moon festivals, and set feast days by number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before the Lord.

32 Thus they are to keep charge of the tent of meeting, and charge of the holy place, and charge of the sons of Aaron their relatives, for the service of the house of the LORD.

32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.

32 They are to carry out their responsibilities to the tent of meeting, to the holy place, and to their relatives, the sons of Aaron, in the service of the Lord's temple."

32 By doing this, they will fulfill their obligation as trustees over the Tent of Assembly and the Sanctuary, attending to the needs of their relatives, who are descendants of Aaron, in keeping with their service on behalf of the Temple of the LORD."

32 So they shall keep charge of the Tent of Meeting and the Holy Place and shall attend to the sons of Aaron their kinsmen, for the service of the house of the Lord.
