Thanksgiving For God's Compassion And Comfort

2 Blessed, be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions, and God of all encouragement,

2 (H)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Grace to you and peace(E) from God our Father(F) and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be yours!

3 Who encourageth us in all our tribulation, to the end we may be able to encourage them who are in any tribulation - through means of the encouragement wherewith we, ourselves, are encouraged by God.

3 (I)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and (J)God of all comfort,

3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

3 Praise(G) the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies(H) and the God of all comfort.(I)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah! He is our merciful Father and the God of all comfort,

4 Because, even as the sufferings of the Christ overflow unto us, so, through the Christ, overfloweth, our encouragement also.

4 who (K)comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in (b)any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

4 He comforts us in all our affliction,(b) so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

4 who comforts us in all our suffering, so that we may be able to comfort others in all their suffering, as we ourselves are being comforted by God.

5 But, whether we are in tribulation, it is for your encouragement and salvation; whether we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement, which worketh inwardly by the endurance of the same sufferings which, we also, suffer; -

5 For just (L)as the sufferings of Christ are (c)ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

5 For as the sufferings(J) of Christ(K) overflow to us, so through Christ our comfort also overflows.(L)

5 For as the Messiah's sufferings overflow into us, so also our comfort overflows through the Messiah.

6 And so, our hope, is sure in your behalf, - knowing that, - as ye are sharers of the sufferings, so, also of the encouragement.

6 But if we are afflicted, it is (M)for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer;

6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

6 If we are afflicted,(M) it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is experienced in your endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.(N)

6 If we suffer, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we are suffering.

God Rescued Paul When He Was Suffering

7 For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, as to our tribulation which happened in Asia, - that, exceedingly, beyond power, were we weighed down, so that we despaired, even of life.

7 and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that (N)as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.

7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

7 And our hope(O) for you is firm, because we know that as you share(P) in the sufferings, so you will share in the comfort.

7 Our hope for you is unshaken, because we know that as you share our sufferings, you also share our comfort.

8 But, we ourselves, within ourselves, have had the sentence of death, that we might not rest our confidence upon ourselves, but upon God, who raiseth the dead,

8 For (O)we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our (P)affliction which came to us in (d)(Q)Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life;

8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

8 For we don’t want you to be unaware, brothers, of our affliction that took place in Asia:(Q) we were completely overwhelmed—beyond our strength(R)—so that we even despaired(S) of life.

8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, about the suffering we experienced in Asia. We were so crushed beyond our ability to endure that we even despaired of living.

9 Who, out of so great a death, rescued us, and will rescue, - unto whom we have turned our hope, that, even yet, he will rescue:

9 (e)indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;

9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

9 Indeed, we personally had a death sentence within ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God(T) who raises(U) the dead.

9 In fact, we felt that we had received a death sentence so we would not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.

10 Ye also labouring together on our behalf, by your supplication, that, unto many persons, being due the gift of favour, unto us, through means of many, might thanks be given in our behalf.

10 who (R)delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, (f)He (S)on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us,

10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

10 He has delivered(V) us from such a terrible death,(W) and He will deliver us. We have put our hope in Him that He will deliver us again

10 He has rescued us from a terrible death, and he will continue to rescue us. Yes, he is the one on whom we have set our hope, and he will rescue us again,

Paul's Clear Conscience

11 For, our boasting, is, this, - the witness of our conscience, that, in sanctity and sincerity of God, and not in fleshly wisdom, but in God's favour, have we behaved ourselves in the world, - and more abundantly towards you.

11 you also joining in (T)helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by (U)many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.

11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

11 while you join in helping us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our(c) behalf for the gift that came to us through the prayers of many.

11 as you also help us by your prayers for us. Then many people will thank God on our behalf because of the favor shown us through the prayers of many.

12 For, no other things, are we writing unto you, than what ye are either reading or even acknowledging, - I hope, moreover, that, throughout, ye will acknowledge,

12 For our (g)proud confidence is this: the testimony of (V)our conscience, that in holiness and (W)godly sincerity, (X)not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.

12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

12 For this is our confidence: The testimony(X) of our conscience(Y) is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with God-given sincerity and purity, not by fleshly(d) wisdom(Z) but by God’s grace.(AA)

12 For this is what we boast about: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world with pure motives and godly sincerity, without earthly wisdom but with God's grace especially toward you.

13 According as ye have also acknowledged us, in part, - that, your theme of boasting, we are, even indeed as, ye, also shall be , ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

13 For we write nothing else to you than what you read and understand, and I hope you will understand (Y)until the end;

13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

13 Now we are writing nothing to you other than what you can read and also understand. I hope you will understand completely—

13 For what we are writing you is nothing more than what you can read and also understand. I hope you will understand completely,

Paul Delays His Visit To Corinth

14 And, in this confidence, I purposed, before, to come unto you, - in order that, a second joy, ye might have, -

14 just as you also partially did understand us, that we are your reason to be proud as you also are ours, in (Z)the day of our Lord Jesus.

14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

14 as you have partially understood us—that we are your reason for pride,(AB) as you are ours,(AC) in the day of our(e) Lord Jesus.(AD)

14 just as you have already understood us partially, so that on the Day of our Lord Jesus we can be your reason to boast, even as you are ours.

15 And, by your means, to pass into Macedonia, and, again, from Macedonia, to come unto you, and, by you, be set forward unto Judea: -

15 In this confidence I intended at first to (AA)come to you, so that you might (h)twice receive a (i)(AB)blessing;

15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

15 I planned with this confidence to come to you first,(AE) so you could have a double benefit,(f)

15 Because I was confident, I planned to come to you first so you might receive a double blessing.

16 This, then, being my purpose, perhaps, after all, with lightness, I dealt with the matter ? or, the things that I purpose, according to the flesh, I purpose, - that, with me, should be the Yea, yea, and the Nay, nay?

16 (j)that is, to (AC)pass (k)your way into (AD)Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and by you to be (AE)helped on my journey to Judea.

16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

16 and to go on to Macedonia(AF) with your help, then come to you again from Macedonia and be given a start by you(AG) on my journey(AH) to Judea.(AI)

16 I planned to leave you in order to go to Macedonia, and then come back to you from Macedonia, and let you send me on to Judea.

17 Faithful, however, is God, in that, our discourse, which was delivered unto you, is not Yea and Nay;

17 Therefore, I was not vacillating when I intended to do this, was I? Or what I purpose, do I purpose (AF)according to the flesh, so that with me there will be yes, yes and no, no at the same time?

17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

17 So when I planned this, was I irresponsible? Or what I plan, do I plan in a purely human(g)(AJ) way so that I say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” simultaneously?

17 When I planned this, I did not do it lightly, did I? Are my plans so fickle that I can say "Yes" and "No" at the same time?

18 For, the Son of God, Christ Jesus - who, among you, through us, was proclaimed, - through me, and Silvanus, and Timothy, became not Yea and Nay, - but Yea, in him, hath it become;

18 But as (AG)God is faithful, (AH)our word to you is not yes and no.

18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

18 As God is faithful,(AK) our message to you is not “Yes and no.”

18 As certainly as God is faithful, we haven't talked to you with mixed messages like that.

19 For, how many soever be the promises of God, in him, is the Yea, - wherefore also, through him, be the Amen, unto God, for glory, through us.

19 For (AI)the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us—by me and (AJ)Silvanus and (AK)Timothy—was not yes and no, but is yes (AL)in Him.

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

19 For the Son of God,(AL) Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silvanus(h)(AM) and Timothy—did not become “Yes and no”; on the contrary, a final “Yes” has come in Him.(AN)

19 For God's Son, Jesus the Messiah, who was preached among you by us by me, Silvanus, and Timothy was not "Yes" and "No." But with him it is always "Yes."

20 Now, he that confirmeth us, together with you, for Christ, and hath anointed us, is God:

20 For (AM)as many as are the promises of God, (AN)in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is (AO)our Amen to the glory of God through us.

20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

20 For every one of God’s promises(AO) is “Yes” in Him. Therefore, the “Amen”(AP) is also spoken through Him by us for God’s glory.(AQ)

20 For all God's promises are "Yes" in him. And so through him we can say "Amen," to the glory of God.

21 Who also hath sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

21 Now He who (AP)establishes us with you in Christ and (AQ)anointed us is God,

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

21 Now it is God who strengthens us, with you, in Christ and has anointed(AR) us.

21 Now the one who makes us and you as well secure in union with the Messiah and has anointed us is God,

22 But, I, call upon God, as a witness, against my own soul, - that, to spare you, not yet, have I come unto Corinth:

22 who also (AR)sealed us and (AS)gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a (l)pledge.

22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

22 He has also sealed us and given us the Spirit as a down payment(AS) in our hearts.(AT)

22 who has placed his seal on us and has given us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment.

23 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are, helpers, of your joy, for, by your faith, ye stand.

23 But (AT)I call God as witness (m)to my soul, that (AU)to spare you I did not come again to (AV)Corinth.

23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

23 I call on God as a witness,(AU) on my life, that it was to spare you that I did not come to Corinth.(AV)

23 I call upon God as a witness on my behalf that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth.
