Israel Rejects The Good

1 Set the horn to thy mouth, and blow: get thee swiftly as an Eagle into the house of the LORD: for they have broken my covenant, and transgressed my law.

1 (A)Put the trumpet to your (a)lips!(B)Like an eagle the enemy comes (C)against the house of the Lord,Because they have (D)transgressed My covenantAnd rebelled against My (E)law.

1 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

1 Put the horn to your mouth!(A)One like an eagle comesagainst the house of the Lord,(B)because they transgress My covenant(C)and rebel against My law.(D)

1 "Sound the ram's horn! Like a vulture the enemy will come against the Temple of the LORD, because Israel violated my covenant, transgressing my Law.

2 Israel can say unto me, "Thou art my God, we know thee,"

2 (F)They cry out to Me,“My God, (G)we of Israel know You!”

2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

2 Israel cries out to Me,(E)“My God, we know You!”

2 They cry out to me, "God, we of Israel acknowledge you.'

3 but he hath refused the thing that is good: therefore shall the enemy follow upon him.

3 Israel has rejected the good; The enemy will pursue him.

3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

3 Israel has rejected what is good;(F)an enemy will pursue him.

3 "Israel has discarded what is good. The enemy will pursue them.

4 They have ordained kings, but not through me: they have made princes, and I must not know of it. Of their silver and gold have they made them images, to bring themselves to destruction.

4 (H)They have set up kings, but not by Me;They have appointed princes, but I did not know it.With their (I)silver and gold they have made idols for themselves,That (b)they might be cut off.

4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

4 They have installed kings,(G)but not through Me.They have appointed leaders, but without My approval. They make their silver and gold(H)into idols for themselvesfor their own destruction.(a)

4 They set kings in place, but not by me. They established princes, whom I did not recognize. They crafted idols for themselves from their silver and gold; as a result, they will be destroyed.

5 Thy calf, O Samaria, shall be taken away, for my wrathful indignation is gone forth against thee. How long will it be, before they can be cleansed?

5 (c)He has rejected your (J)calf, O Samaria, saying,“My anger burns against them!”How long will they be incapable of (K)innocence?

5 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

5 Your calf-idol(b)(I) is rejected, Samaria.(J)My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?(K)

5 Your calf, Samaria, has been thrown away. My anger is burning against them. How long until they become pure again?

6 For the calf came from Israel; the workman made it: therefore can it be no God, but even to a spider's web shall the calf of Samaria be turned.

6 For from Israel is even this!A (L)craftsman made it, so it is not God;Surely the calf of Samaria will be broken to (d)pieces.

6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

6 For this thing is from Israel—a craftsman made it,(L) and it is not God.The calf of Samaria will be smashed to bits!

6 Because from Israel it was fashioned by craftsmen, it is not God; therefore Samaria's calf will be broken in pieces.

7 They have sown wind, therefore shall they reap a whirlwind. Their seed shall bear no corn, there shall no meal be made of their increase: though they reap, yet shall strangers devour it up.

7 For (M)they sow the windAnd they reap the (N)whirlwind. The standing grain has no (e)heads; It yields (O)no (f)grain.Should it yield, strangers would swallow it up.

7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

7 Indeed, they sow the wind(M)and reap the whirlwind.(N)There is no standing grain;what sprouts fails to yield flour.(O)Even if they did, foreigners would swallow it up.

7 "Because they sow the wind, they will reap the wind storm. The plant has no stalk and its bud yields no grain. Even if there's a harvest, foreigners will gobble it up.

8 Israel shall perish, the Gentiles shall entreat him as a foul vessel.

8 Israel is (P)swallowed up;They are now among the nationsLike a (Q)vessel in which no one delights.

8 Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

8 Israel is swallowed up!(P)Now they are among the nationslike discarded pottery.(Q)

8 Israel has been devoured; now they will live among the nations like a worthless container.

9 Since they went up to the Assyrians, they are become like a wild ass in the desert. Ephraim giveth rewards to get lovers.

9 For they have gone up to (R)Assyria,Like (S)a wild donkey all alone;Ephraim has (T)hired (g)lovers.

9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

9 For they have gone up to Assyria(R)like a wild donkey going off on its own.Ephraim has paid for love.(S)

9 "Because they went over to Assyria, they are like a wild donkey alone by itself. Ephraim has hired some lovers.

10 Therefore are they scattered among the Heathen; There will I gather them up. They shall soon be weary of the burden of king and princes.

10 Even though they hire allies among the nations,Now I will (U)gather them up;And they will begin (V)to (h)diminishBecause of the burden of the (W)king of princes.

10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

10 Even though they hire lovers among the nations,I will now round them up,and they will begin to decrease in number(T)under the burden of the king and leaders.(U)

10 Even though they sold themselves to the nations, I will gather them. They will mourn for a while for the burden they were to the king and princes.

11 Ephraim hath made many altars to do wickedness, therefore shall the altars turn to his sin.

11 Since Ephraim has (X)multiplied altars for sin,They have become altars of sinning for him.

11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

11 When Ephraim multiplied his altars for sin,(V)they became his altars for sinning.

11 "The more altars Ephraim builds for sin, the more altars there will be for sin.

12 Though I show them my law never so much, they count it but strange doctrine.

12 Though (Y)I wrote for him ten thousand precepts of My (Z)law,They are regarded as a strange thing.

12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

12 Though I were to write out for himten thousand points of My instruction,(W)they would be(c) regarded as something strange.

12 I prescribed great things from my Law for them, but they considered them profane.

13 Whereas they do sacrifice, offering the flesh and eating it, the LORD will have no pleasure therein: but will remember their wickedness, and punish their sins. Israel turneth again into Egypt:

13 As for My (AA)sacrificial gifts,They (AB)sacrifice the flesh and eat it,But the Lord has taken no delight in them. Now He will (AC)remember their iniquity,And (AD)punish them for their sins; They will return to (AE)Egypt.

13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

13 Though they offer sacrificial gifts(d)(X)and eat the flesh,(Y)the Lord does not accept them. Now He will remember their guilt(Z)and punish their sins;(AA)they will return to Egypt.(AB)

13 They offer me meat from the sacrifices of my offerings, and they eat from it, but the LORD does not accept them. He will now remember their transgression and pay them back for their sins; to Egypt they will return.

14 they have forgotten him that made them, they build churches, and Judah maketh many strong cities: therefore will I send a fire into their cities, and it shall consume their places.

14 For Israel has (AF)forgotten his Maker and (AG)built palaces; And Judah has multiplied fortified cities,But I will send a (AH)fire on its cities that it may consume its palatial dwellings.

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

14 Israel has forgotten his Maker(AC) and built palaces;(AD)Judah has also multiplied fortified cities.I will send fire on their cities,(AE)and it will consume their citadels.

14 "Israel has neglected its maker in building palaces. Judah has multiplied its fortified cities, but I will send fire to their cities, and it will consume their fortresses."
